My Trip to the dyno

ok, so i woke up @ 8am to do an oil change and coolant change on the car and tie up all the loose ends to get ready for the trip to jamestown.

For some reason every time i go tuning wiht mike it alwasy ends up being 90+ degrees, which doesnt help much

so i leave my house @ 2pm and head over to mikes to pick him up. ON the way there my car starts to overheat a lil bit, which sucks, but im thinking maybe its just a bubble… so i get to mikes pop the hood and go to put some coolant in the overflow bottle and end up knocking the rad cap slightly with teh coolant bootle causing the radiator to spew coolant all over the place… the day is not starting good

so i refill the coolant and me and mike head off down the 90 to jamestown to interprep a place with a mustang variable load dyno so we could do a full map for my standalone…

on the way down the car starts to overheat again on the 90 anytime i would go below 50 or get stuck behind a car… so i have to turn the heat on in the car to keep it undercontroll… the overheating was unexpected because i drove the car the nightbefore for two hours and coolant temps were fine

so after a HOT journey down to jamestown we arrive at interprep and meet the owner and he shows us his collection of open wheel cosworth v8 powered cars and all the otehr cool shit he has at the shop…

we pull the front bumper off my car so it will fit on the dyno and load her up

we do alot of partial load tuning to get the car ready to get on the boost

we start gradually turning up the boost and doing more partial load tuning, so we do this for about 2 hours and are now at about 10 or 12 psi er so… then the car starts acting weird, its not idling right and just sounding off… so we check the car out and everythign seems fine and then we look at the voltage and its at 9 volts… apparently i burned through my alternator… so we decide to stop the runs and pull the car off the dyno and see whats up, so it comes down and the car is now at 12.7 idling … so we are like ok, lets go home, we get on the way back and BAM the car is down to 9 volts again barely driving… we get back to the shop decide to call around for an alternator and find one close by… i go get it with one of the employees of the shop and by the time i get back the owner has my car in the air and on jack stands… so i get to work replacing the alternator and get it swapped out in about 40 minutes from start to finish… we make it home…

I want to say a big thanx to mike from innovative for helping me out and putting up with my car being such a PITA (he didnt complain once about the heat on the way down)

the last few runs that i recorded were at 10psi er so and the last run that i have a sheet from was also around 10-12 psi but the car was right around 10 volts at that time

final numbers i have from that day were like 270 something ( i dont recall the sheet is in the car)

but im kinda happy with that # at such a low boost level (took me 17psi to get near that on my old setup)

on the way back we got on it a couple of times and the car pulls ALOT harder then 270 since on the way home we had full voltage

but here is a quick vid of one of the 8-9 psi runs ( i dont recall exactly which this was)

how much more is in her?

lots more, i didnt even get into the turbo’s efficency range cuz we got cut short, im getting a new rad and ill make another trip back

sounds good so far man . Once you get these minor issues sorted out, you’ll be able to fine tune it and see what that beast can do :D.

nice man

Sounds like it will really kick under some bigger boost

 nice #'s

nice. get that rad and crank her up and lets see what she can really do

haha, yeah mike told me about the trip, after I was complaining how hot it was the other day

keep it up, you’ll eventually see results, and it will make this entire process worth it

With all that money when are you getting to 400 whp?

before any of your rides make it off the jackstands

lol

rofl ownd… cant wait to see it all dialed in

a little more power than a stock srt-4

good job

:bloated:

hopefully you’ll git-r-done

Mike is a great guy and is always wiulling to help someone out.

You will get her dialed in in no time at all.

How much boost does the stock srt4 need to make its power? :bloated:

not bad at all. What about trq #'s

 nice man

cant wait to see the high boost #'s
