My turbo 3.8 Camaro

Ah. Who are you talking to?

im talking too Johawk…his post is right above mine?

Johawk…I saw on your myspace that you had some pictures of the civic from morgans shop…do you know morgan?? He knows all about my car…We put it on his dyno but had to cut the day short due to some issues…needless to say, with some serious problems, i still put down more rwhp and rwtq then a stock or mildly Bolt on LS1

He was talking to me… LOL. Anyway, these were some of my friends that talked shit behind my back when I had my GTP and said GTPs were slow and had no potential until I went 13.5 at 106 @ 15psi no IC. These engines love to make torque and when you put them together with tall gears and auto they run awesome. My run was on a 2.93 final drive with a 3300 stall converter. Your car probably has the stock V6 2.73 gear whick explains the high trap and why your car is a sort of a highway freak from what I gather. My GTP with 6600rpm shift points shifted 2nd at 55-60mph and 3rd right at 104. and it had so much torque it usually spun both tires all the way thru 1st and into second gear.
That Civic from Synapse was my cousins car. Me and my cousin built it in less than a month with a turbo kit he bought used off of Mike Cowley I believe. I dont know Morgan very well but he is a great guy and seems to be into his work. Unfortunately, not many people give the poor guy credit. He works his ass off and tries his hardest to make everyone satisfied. He does good work in my opinion and when the time comes that I need something done to my car I cant do my self (fabricating turbo stuff) it will probably be Morgan and the enthusiastic crew at Synapse making it happen

The v6 cars didnt come with 2.73’s…that was only the rear end gear setup for the Z28’s,formulas,SS’s and ws6’s. My car has 3.42’s in it…but im looking to swap them out for 3.23’s which would give me even more pull on the highway

My car has a 99 WS6 rear end in it…Posi, 3:42’s.

I have an EF does that count?

If I show up driving the car backwards that counts as RWD right? :lol

Glad to see some more domestics here.

It’s funny how in the domestics world 6 cyl’s is nothing, but in the import world, it’s huge because most 6cyl’s in the import world have been known to make tremendous power under FI.

I liked the GTP (VERY comfy) but the slushy auto wasn’t a fun car for me. I know the lack of IC hurt you but 3.8L/16PSI/106MPH traps is unimpressive.

Domesics and imports have a different style in the 1/4 mile…for example

I have a 500hp civic, yet it only makes 300wtq. I launch, and pull a 2.0 60’ on slicks…my 1/4 is 11.0 @ 139mph

I have a 500hp vette with 500rwtq on slicks also. Launch, rip a 1.6 60’ and run a 1/4 at 11.0 also @ 128…see the difference?

Just cause his trap MPH is low in the GTP, doesnt mean its a slow car…I bet stock that car would pull 1.8 60’ all day long (correct me if im wrong)…also, a GTP weighs in at like 3800lbs…and 106 is a Bone stock LS1 trap mph that weighs 3300lbs…

Not sure why you are comparing domestics and imports or have ET numbers in there. I am only using traps just for gauging HP numbers (Crappy way but all I have in this discussion). I am just saying a 3.8L/16PSI/106MPH in a car is not very impressive to me. Stock MKIV runs about 12PSI in a 3.0L and traps right near there, 2G 3/S runs 12PSI in a 3.0L and traps 101-103MPH (3,750LB), etc…

I guess I expected bigger traps out of that bigger displacement for that boost/mods.

Also, 500HP Civics trapping ~140MPH?

lol they were just “examples” not actual numbers

No i know what your saying and by no means am I trying to create a argument about it…I just thought you meant it in a different way and thats why i threw the HP vs TQ kinda thing out there with my examples

Im not sure how much PSI a stock GTP runs with their eaton M90 supercharger…correct me if im wrong but isnt it 12psi or something?? And they are rated at 240hp stock…so im guessing with 16psi they prolly make about 260-280whp but around 300wtq.

You also have to consider that autos are gonna have a lower trap speed especially when you have a 3300 stall converter and you have to feather the gas thru the 1/8 mile just to keep traction. That run was also done on a leaking head gasket and a stock 2 1/4inch exaust. It was just thrown together to make that track night. but Im not gonna make any exuses cause that was a sick run for a car with a race weight of 3900 pounds on street tires that can swallow 5 adults and two coolers of beer. My next GTP will be better now that my engine is properly broken in and next car will be turbo. Expect to see a 12 second full weight 4 door tearing up the streets in a few years.

^^^ lol, I remember that night.

Now that Im done with my rant. Honestly the car felt faster with less boost. Supercharging is a little different than turbo w/IC I sacraficed some top end probably due to compression heat and parasitic loss (takes power to make power) on the 15-16psi pulley, but made alot more torque. on street tires, I probably would have been better off with the larger 11-12psi pulley. I should have played with both at the track and tuned the car in better but at the time I was in the mind set “go big or go home” you know how it is… I think my next 3800 with the same boost turbo instead of supercharged would make more power just removing the parasitic drag. Just to put things into perspective, my first run of that night was a 16.4 at 99mph. My friends were in the stands and said that smoke poured out of the fenders the whole 1/4 mile which made sense cause I didnt feel the car shift once and the tach stayed at about 6200 the whole run. I was not prepared for that kind of torque.

Sorry If Im hijaking your tread Boostin Camaro
Ps. If you want a 3.23 posi rear there is one conviently sitting under my Trans Am

Last note… the supercharged 3800 is a true mucle car torque monster making 260hp in my GTX trim and 310ft.lbs. stock. Youre HP estimate is probably close at maybe 260-280 at the wheels but similary modded GTPs have produced in upwards of 400ft.lbs of torque! It would throw 5 people in there soft leather sofa seats pretty hard from a 40 roll

The stock Eaton M90 is subject to weak quality control. some have a tighter rotor to case clearance than others thus creating more boost. A stock GTP should have between 6-8* but some have been far lower. Other factors such as atmos. pressure affect supercharger cars like N/A cars because there is no way to register boost to compensate where a turbo car would just take a little longer to spool to say 12* at high elevation or low barometric pressure. Also some cars have better or worse blower inlets/outlets and intake manifold casing and machining affecting flow which in turn affects temp and boost pressure of the incoming air. I did my best to hand port mine but looking back I could have done better.

are you serious about the 3.23 rear end?? My rear end is out of a 99 WS6 with 3.42’s. If you plan on staying NA, the 3.42’s would benefit you, where as your 3.23’s would benefit me…if your serious, I could do the whole swap in 3 hours (take mine out, yours out…put them in)

Most guys with LS1s use the 3.42s with FI because LS1s have a very peaky powerband making most of their torque well above 3k rpm and 3.42s are just the right load to spool a decent turbo, especially with a 6speed. If I were staying auto I would look for 3.08 or 2.73 with a huge stall converter. Your car has traction control which makes the swap more complicated because I do not. So your ABS is 4 channel while mine is 3 channel. Other than that I would be willing to do a strait swap with you but I think we would have to swap axles from one rear to another as well as backing plates but Im not entirely sure. I might be buying a built 10 bolt from a friend with 4.10 but Im not sure yet… there is still plenty of winter left

I dont have ABS on my car…this 99 WS6 rear end didnt have the hookup module that my stocker v6 rear end had.

Why no IC? That’s just giving away power. At least be ghetto and spray it with alky/propane/etc… if you don’t plan to cool the intake charge any other way.

Got some new things to add on for christmas…

Mom got me drilled and slotted rotors (already put them on) and some nice KYB Adjustable rear gas shocks, Some RK sport lowering springs and also a Cutout ;D…Cutout should give me much more top end pull since I have a 3" downpipe going into a 2.5" catback :headbang :headbang

found this when i uploaded the pic of the CRX :lol dunno why i took it but here…

lol…when did u take that?
