NA > TT Swap Diary

And so it begins…

1990 Nissan 300ZX NA conversion to TT

First day was slow. Put together my engine hoist and jacked the car in the air. I have to pick up the pase to get this finished.

VLAD ****ED UP MY CAR!!! I go outside and I find my car like this

He was smoking weed and drinking beer + Vodka and now my car won’t start.

Then he randomly started speaking in a Jamaican accent (Red Stripe beer)

And then he looked at what he did

And started laughing about it

Then he said he is going home with my Datsun and to go **** myself

hahahahaha, :R Vlad

So yeah, if I were focused I could’ve gotten the bulk of the engine removal done last night. It will only take about 4 hours to hurridly get the engine out. Dropping the new one in again isn’t hard at all. Lifting and a couple bolts and it’s good.
No harness modification needed, however I’m buying a Stage III TT ECU from Dell. Connecting will take majority of the time, but I’m just having a good time chilling with friends and laughing it up while it’s all going on. More of the bulk comes from that.

Woooo…cant wait to see the finished product man! Hopin that your TT swap goes as easy as my VE swap did!!

^^^ The only thing that’s holding me back right now is that my hoist doesn’t have the right attachments to pick up the engines. Other than that everything is pulling and because I saw it on the front clip, I know exactly where to put it on my car.

Nice diary  Keep us updated. Take your time, and mark everything. Even though you saw it on the clip, have it marked as you may be diagnosing vacuum problems for a while.

Wooo! Git 'er done!

UPDATE!!

I’m a little over 50% done right now, and by the end of tomorrow I’ll be in the home stretch. I’m a bit ahead of schedule so things are looking up for DJPyros event :R

popcorn…
what are you doin with the oe motor?
wanna see if it’ll shoehorn into a 74 road runner?

lol
will need a tranny and computer and fuel conversion and donor car and and and and

dam, looks like alot of work…

Hope everything goes well for you…:R

I’m selling the oe motor. I’m trying to convince Shorteaz to buy it. She already claimed the transmission, but if you took the motor I’d give you the wiring harness, ECU, fuel computer (there’s one in these cars) and you may want to use a Walbro or I can sell you my NA fuel pump.

Thanks man. It’s coming along so far and I like that it’s been rainy because it’s been pretty cool as a result.

you’ve been busy… :stuck_out_tongue: wish i could help out man, but ive been working sometimes 9 hour days and then trying to get my new car ready for the djpyro’s thing as well! i hope you get it running in time bro…

i helped out a bit lastnight with the water pump issue lmao… and still im not smart at all… :hmm

Things are running crazy out of schedule and now I’m a day behind. Based on the constant issues I’m wondering if I’ll even get it done for Monday.

hahahaha F$#& you TK!! Not smart my ass. Thanks for that important piece of information that I overlooked though. I tightened them again last night. :R

IT’S ALIVE!!! Bountywolf is wicked.
He left at 4:30am after we started it. He was throwing parts like he’s done it a million times before.
The engine was throwing 3 codes. Two are now done and the final one I’ll fix tomorrow. Now it’s time to put it back together visually.
I’m so happy :R

glad to hear you are almost done man…Hope to see the finish product soon…

Yesterday morning I was dealing with this
http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o69/pcproa/TT_Swap/PICT0001-1.jpg

And by Saturday night I was dealing with this.
http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o69/pcproa/TT_Swap/PICT0010.jpg

RABBIT and is barely legal girl were the first “victims” of the boost. I’ve had the wastegates disconnected since I got it running so the max it will do is bounce off of 5PSI. Even then, various friends were still pissing their pants when I hit 3G… and then 5G it seems to pull even harder even though the boost falls off. Maybe one of my turbos are boosting a little later than the other for some reason.
Anyway, Funkd5, Kurtaceez and Bountywolf were all right. Once you go boost you NEVER want to go back. Just the sound alone for me is pure sex. That swishing sound of the recircs going every time I let off of the throttle.
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

EDIT - Oh BTW. There seems to be a coolant leak on the right side of the block. Not sure what it is

^^^^^someone should take it for a test drive;)
BTW give me a call …

piiimp! congratulations man, that was a serious project! i dont think i could have pulled that off in a week to tell you the truth. I’ve got to see it soon bro.

good job man…just don’t get too boost happy…work the engine nice and slow first before driving it hard…but man, once you know you got boost , it is hard to control your damm right foot from flooring it and hearing them turbos spool…oh what a rushhhhhhhh…

Hey Patrick, when are you gonna grab that stage 3 chip? LOL, if you think that your car is fast now, just wait till you put in the chip…say hello to some vettes next time you see them…hehehehe…oh and also did you make me that cable yet?
