the fact of the matter is:
hip-hop is not dead…fuck corny ass nas.
you guys are all talkin about older golden era hiphop and what not - since when were the “4 elements” of hiphop displayed in Nas’s videos? Oh wait, never. It was always grimy ass Queensbridge shit. Now it’s the South, grimy ass street shit. Nas bitches, “hip-hops dead”…well he’s crying cuz the streets aren’t listening to him anymore. Face it it’s the same shit, different formula. Lyricism is just as on point as ever, don’t act like the new club jam shit is stupid because just like mentioned earlier, there was always stupid club shit - read: Oochie Wally by Nas. We could sit here and go line by line and guess what, the has-beens have just as many good and bad lines as the new dudes in their lyrical catalog.
Yeah everyone likes the early 90s shit and all, but you gotta accept hip-hop for what it is because lets face it, the lyrical content back then isn’t THAT great and/or different. You can debate lyrics all day long but in reality there’s only so many ways you can express emotions so fuck it, as long as they’re decent and have good lines, what’s the fucking point of reading a few lines from each rapper trying to determine what’s better? Fuck it, you like what you like and we like what we like.
Bottom line though, Nas, Jay-Z, all those cats…has-beens. I won’t take someone seriously that says hip-hop is dead - shit is as alive as it’s ever been…fuck it if anything all the harder street shit is more marketable then EVER right now.
Bring in the new contenders…Jeezy, the Game, Cam’ron/Dipset, Wayne…whatever.
Let go of 1995 cuz it ain’t comin back.
