National Geographic article from April of last year

Creepy as fuck. Perfectly anticipated the hurricane and its effects. Good thing we spend all that money on anti-terrorism and cant build a decent fucking levy. Cause its ok when thousands of Amercians are killed by hurricanes, just as long as its not by terrorists.

whats so creepy about it? i mean sure they wrote an article about it and the issues with a big hurricane, but it’s not liek our government to read something and be proactive…

there is shit all about east coast tsunami’s caused by landslides / volcanoes… and how many stories about san andreas fault causing LA to float away after a huge earthquake?

or the one about the underground volcanoe in yellowstone that could erupt and cause an ice age.

there is a ton of information out there about shit like this… it was just a matter of time. i’m sure that people will shift light from terrorism (btw, did you read that article with a survey done by a 3rds party company[ross and baruzzini] that rated changes since 9/11 and it says something like over 50% of emergency responce leaders have NOT made any positive progress in the four years it’s been?) to natural disasters and the havoc to b e caused.

takes people getting fucked to pay attention to the ‘little’ people.

why cant our government just not be a total piece of shit? For once… it would be nice.

the government…:blah: how about the state of LA fucked up as did that wack job mayor. Mississippi/Bama seems to be dealing ok. the government became the last resort cause the local officials fucked up. There were over two thousand school busses that the mayor of NO could have used to get those people outta there and he didn’t. He’s the Fuck up along with the governer but no one wants to blame a woman or a black guy.

shut the fuck up.

by ‘our’ government you mean local / state / federal… right?

or was this all bush’s fault?

make me

$20

it was funny cause they interviewed a N.O. city engineer…he was talking about the failed levy. he explained how it couldn’t hold up to that catagory of a hurricane.

they were like…well then why wasn’t it fixed so it could…he said there would have been no time.

so they were like well how bout years ago??

he said…well it would have to be like 20yrs & 20mil (forget the figure) & they said well why wasn’t it done that way 20yrs ago…there was a loooooong pause(speechless)& then he was like I don’t know??

& yes…he was working there how ever many years ago when they were upgraded/built etc…

lots of it was Bush’s fault. They had plans to shore up the levies but the funding was cut to the Army Corps who were building it in favor of post-war Iraq obligations. 50% of the national guard that could have immediately responded were in the middle east. His total lack of concern for the situation was embarassing. His FEMA director has NO FUCKING EXPERIENCE WITH DISASTER MANAGEMENT WHATSOEVER…

Brown’s last job (other than GOP activist) was the commissioner of judges and stewards for the International Arabian Horse Association, a breeders’ and horse-show organization based in Colorado. Even worse, he bungled THAT job so badly that he was asked to resign by the IAHA.

He judged fucking horse shows. Horse Shows. and of course he was a close personal friend of W. There was a break down on all levels, but the Federal government is ultimately responsible in a massive disaster like this, and they failed miserably.

:naughty:

if they knew this for 20+ years that the levies couldn’t take a hit like this then why are people just blaming bush now because the A.C. of E is in Iraq. I guess carter, regan, bush sr and clinton are to blame too? NO… the state of LA is to blame

i forgot local / state and even some federal government employees in places of decision making cannot issue commands without bush’s undivided attention.

“50% could of been there if they weren’t in iraq”

um…i could of been there if i wasn’t at work… or you could of been ther if you weren’t in OC… or there wouldn’t be an issue if no one was home in new orleans…

The levy breaks were LA’s fault… mostly. I guess?

In 1965 the state talked about putting money aside and working on imporving the levy over 10 years. The job was to be completed by 1975.

This plan was devised for the event on the levys breaking.

Around 1975 the plan was forgotten and all the money put aside for the levy was lost in other finances for the state.

They brought up te plan again in 1986 and again 2000 and STILL could not come up with the funds (or figure out where they went) to rebuild the levys.

I will try to find my source for this… but it was in an interview I saw on CNN a week ago…

NO is known to have corupt politcs, who knows where the money goes.

THIS JUST IN, OPRAH WINFREY is MAD!!!

haha

i read thtat too and thought “what a selfish bitch”

our government is leaps and bounds greater than any on this planet

lol it’s bush’s fault the levy’s broke   good thing he’s the one that told them to build them that way in the first place. i love how hurracane damage sudenly becomes a political issue. next thing they’ll be blaming bush for not personally driving the bus out of NO when stupid people can’t follow a “use of force” evacuation and choose to stay

Why is there all this talk about leeves? The real problem is the lose of the marsh lands down there, about 25 square miles a year are lost. These marshes help stop the water surge from storms like this, and then the leeves would have had a better chance of holding up. So whos fault is that? Well the leeves block the marsh building silt from Lake Pontchartrain. Making the designeers of the leeves. (but i really dont get this, lets blame anyone we can crap. If you are so worried about these leeves start a commision rasie money and build better ones, bitching about it on pittspeed isnt going to do a thing.)

bush is down there with a shovel blocking the silt as we speak
