This is much more of a problem, that’s why I was saying everyone should be educated. If you’re on Jerry Springer or any show of the like you should be euthanized.
The same argument, to a certain extent, can be had for people of any sexual orientation.
Thats not really fair towards Jerry and Maury though. You trying to take their jerbs and put them on welfare? Thats just perpetuating the vicious cycle.
On a personal level, I’ve become numb to this kind of crap. Are people even intelligent enough to make decisions and govern themselves? What I’m getting at is – why extend the power of government even further? Where is that line drawn?
What really bothers me is the thought of teenagers who are gay and live in these states. Imagine being gay (closeted) and in a family with two parents that were for this ammendment (a sure sign that a central part of who they are, their sexuality, is not accepted as “normal”)? What do you do? Watch youtube videos about “it gets better” until you graduate and move on? People at that age are ill-equipped to defend themselves against the belief system they were raised with and rejection by their families and communities.
sorry i missed this thread.
I’m actually pretty impressed that things stayed as kosher as they have in here given the subject matter.
imho everyone is a little bit wrong on this and no one is forward-seeking enough.
on a personal level i have no issue with gay marriage or abortion or whatever but the legal reasons allowing or not allowing it have to be stronger than what is currently on the table so that the issues don’t turn into gateway issues for the next cause that will come right behind it.
If gay marriage being legal is solely about human rights, love etc. then the same arguements will apply to incestual relationships or other things that we currently do not accept.
I can’t see not allowing gay marriage because of it’s impact on children. A lot of the impact on children has to do with external factors; how the community percieves gay marriage. 10 years from now or even today in Canada or other more progressive countries (scandanavian ones for example) homosexuality is not as frowned upon and therefore has less negative impact on children than it does in places like parts of the US, the middle east of Asia.
By contrast; at present, single men cannot adopt young girls. Or at least it is incredibly difficult to do so, i know people going through this right now. Over time that will change but the rules are there out of the interest of the child and the liability of the state.
have to go into a meeting… will come back in here later
