Need a Hydraulic Mechanic (front loader)

Have a ~1961 Trojan front loader that is having hydro problems - We’ve got lift, but no curl.

The pump is most likely good, since there is lift…
None of the lines are blown / leaking…
We think the head on the cylinder has let go, letting no PSI build up.

Can anyone come by (Williamsville) to troubleshoot / confirm this? Possibly even repair it?

There are quite a few places to send parts for repair / rebuild, but kinda want to be sure what the problem is before you go hauling around large heavy objects

Similiar to this:

want to sell??? are you sure nothing is leaking… i have a problem on my plow…i have up and down but not tilt .that is kinda the same and its my cylinder…do you have anything to try and swap it to see

No leaks or squirts.

We’re assuming its the cylinder “valving” thats not holding any pressure.

I doubt he’ll sell, lol… its his big toy.

I think I’m way too immature… :frowning:

:bump:

I’m a hydraulics Engineer, but between work and school there is no way that I could get out to view this, but if your cylinder has a “bypass” condition it would still extend based on differential areas (from piston side to rod side) and act like a ram cylinder (like the angle rams on a snowplow that only go out). If you are getting no motion at all it most likely is some other problem, like a stuck valve spool or control.

You could do a quick test to see if you are getting flow/pressure to the cylinder:

(make sure that your hyd. system is off first)

1.) disconnect the extend and retract lines from your cylinder ports and connect them to each other with an inline flow valve, if this is not possible you can do something more unsafe like pointing the open line into a bucket or such
2.)Have someone start up the system and check the control, if fluid comes out, then the problem is your cylinder, if not it is something else.

This isn’t 100% definitive, the cylinder could be mechanically stuck, such as rusted or internally damaged that is preventing it from extending.
