Need A Technician For Engine Work

Hey guys. Alright so heres my deal, im set on buying this 1996 240sx SE as my first true car. Now I love the 240sx and all, however the one I am particularily interested in is going to need some work.

The car was apparantly well maintained, however when the driver took the car out of storage and went for a ride he claimed it was riding rough. Now, I asked him to diagnose this and he said the Head Gasket will need to be replaced.

The thing is the car is located in Windsor, and I live in Toronto, so my question is, would it be possible to drive the car all the way here without replacing the headgasket, I know it sounds stupid, so onto my next proposal.

Now ive got some apx quotes off the net for replacing the headgasket, some go as much as $1200. Now, I was hoping you guys could help me out since I presume 240sx brothers like to help eachother out.

Id be willing to pay your price for you to come and replace the gasket. If youre located in Windsor or near thatd be amazing, if youre in Toronto, then hmm id have to see if I could somehow get the car here.

Please help me out guys

3 Choices.

1 - Tow the car

2 - Get as much old oil as you can, and drive that bitch back here, occasionally pulling over and topping her up with some oil every now and then

3 - Look for another car, there are always better deals out there.

A headgasket isin’t too hard to replace, and with the right tools can be done very easily. The reason why its so expensive to have it fixed would be that the head on the motor can be damaged from excessive wear and tear for the leaky headgasket. Thus ruining the seal and making it so that you’d have to get everything plained or leveled in order to replace the gasket + have an airtight seal + the cost of labour and parts.

Either that or replace the motor.

If I were you, I’d stick to #3, as there are alot of S-chassis in and around Toronto for sale, that are actually running.

Best of luck, and do some research if your new.

the head gasket is not an easy thing to do … its faster to swap a ka24de motor than change a head gasket.

download the Nissan FSM … it will give u an idea of work involved.

U wont be able to make it from windsor to toronto with a blown headgasket … max u can drive is a few minutes without risking the motor from seizing up

^^ Bullshit

I’ve driven from Hamilton to Etobicoke with a blown head on my single slammer.

Just keep it lubbed and its good to go.

lol … go ahead then and try the 4 hr drive on a blown headgasket - Make sure u got tow truck on speed dial.

I would not recommend that drive. although it IS doable.

Go to the states if you want a S-chassis.

^^ what he said, might as well go to the states if u wanna travel that far, youll prolly find something a lil cleaner and cheaper

mmhmm.

I paid 3500 for mine. Needed a lot of suspension work. But it was very clean, still not clean clean though. I am the third owner.

Go to the states spend 3500 probably second owner and in immaculate condition.

Mind you, my car is VERY clean. Bottom of fenders are gone, rockers starting to show signs, and rear quarters. But everything else. My god, I fell in love. LoL

You got a lot to learn that’s for sure!

On a serious note I wouldn’t drive it. CAA could be done in stages if that is an option for you. You would be better off most likely swapping a KA in there instead of swapping a head gasket I believe. You than have a spare engine to!

caa is free towing for 215kms or some shit the rest you gotta pay, go with option 3

CAA could be done in stages

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

lol, I was about to say “have CAA on speed dial” :stuck_out_tongue:

CAA is only free if you have a subscription… dont give the guy the wrong idea!
windsor is a long way to drive a broked up car… keep looking there will always be a better deal if just wait.

My dad has a Caa subscription…does it matter which car its with?

vehicle also has to have plates on it

head gasket is easier to do!! dont drive it to keep the motor from killing itself. if you plan on boosting it buy a metal head gasket.

You guys know there is more than one way a head gasket can blow… right?

It might be fine to drive it, it might not be fine, depends how it blew.

Him asking for someone to do it is a pretty good inclination that it is leaking internally.

Then again, very good point.

Well I have no idea where if its infact leaking internally. I havent personally gone to windsor yet to check the car out(thats this weekend), but the head gasket will have to be replaced.

Im asking for help because Ive never worked on a 240sx, and secondly im not that mechanically inclined to be doing this. Hence Im asking for some assistance
