Hey guys I need some advice on how to proceed. Here is my sad sad story.
About three weeks back I got into an employment situation which forced me to run my car every day of the week for about 50km, at 6am and 8pm. As you can imagine I didnt spend as much time looking after my car as I should have for those three weeks. I ran past the mileage for an oilchange also.
So as it happens, sometime during all that running oil started leaking and the belts took oil to the alternator which blew. I replaced the alternator ( $240 parts and labour ) and then got someone to fix the valve cover where we originally thought the leak was. After that the car ran for all of five mins then started smoking like mad and almost stalling when coming off red lights. ( My car is an automatic ) I poked around, and apparently my head gasket is leaking somewhere below where I couldnt tell before.
The great part of it is that now I am out of a job and I dont want to run my car otherwise I risk blowing my new alternator. I know head gaskets are a big job. I was quoted $1000 to $1500 to fix it. Plus I need a new rad which is leaking like mad because poking around in there aggravated an earlier problem.
Anyone knows where I can get this fixed for cheaper? I don’t have the tools , experience or space to do it myself.
Or shoudl I just put in a new engine?
I am just on a tight budget with a hurting car and need some advice on my options.
Yeah I guess the rad I can get cheap. My problem is just the engine. I am pissed off I put in an alternator without figuring out this stuff first.
There are a few people on these boards that deal with engines. I cannot find the post now where someone mentioned the name Varun but I have no idea who that is. I guess first I will PM Victor and get a price off him.
How lenghty is the process for an engine swap? I just want to go with another ka24de since this car all of a sudden turned from project car to daily driver.
varun is the guy to talk to about SR motors, you want to talk to his customers to get your hands on a cheap ka
To swap in an identicle engine isn’t that hard with no knowledge but the right tools you could have it done easily in a week I’d say?
If you know what you are doing and are quick you could have it done in a day …
Thanks for the links man. I had seen the first one earlier, but for some reason I never looked at that buyer seller feedback forum before. Its interesting.
Gonna pm a few people about engines. Thanks again for all the help.
hey jdmride is selling a KA24DE and it has auto transmission too, really low kms too. After you get it, get Chris (I think its CanadianDrifter240sx) to install the engine for you. He did mine in about 10.5 hours. Started up on first try.
