the trick would be to trade something in over value to get a discount that way. It’s not like they won’t negotiate trade in.
new cars often are a smart buy… you get a longer warranty, lower finance rates, and more importantly you don’t get somebody else’s problems.
get one used and haggle, thats what i did
they aren’t allowed to negotiate on price on the sticker. they’d get smacked by corporate. but you can get the dealer to throw in “goodies” (accessories) directly through the dealership, which would be under the radar. it’s like a separate order for parts that you don’t pay for. tell your friend to ask for that.
i got mine to throw in a couple of dealer installed accessories.
If your paying 20K for a tC your in the wrong place. Mine was 18K brand new and was a special release series with a shitload of extra stuff (rims, different grill, engine dress up kit, special floor and trunk mats, door sills, etc.)
I think the normal ones are like 16-17K.
They don’t haggle price with you though.
To answer that multitude of questions, she is getting a new car because her grandmother is footing the bill and wants her to have something new rather than something used. I’ve told her we could get something way better for the $$ but her grandmother is set on getting her a new car in the 17k to 20k range. As to why a scion, because grammy is a toyota freak and believes they are the only brand worth buying(which is an entirely silly notion IMO) and she wasn’t even willing to go with Scion until we proved they are in fact toyotas, and in that price range I think we can all agree the tC in that price range is a more fun option than a corolla or yaris.
And thx, we’ll look into the accessories thing, Dorshel wants 17 and change for it, then ridiculous amounts for accessories so we’ll see what we can get thrown in, the best deal we have been offered so far was discounted 21K for an 08 with euro taillights, ground effects, pedestal spoiler, lowered half an inch, a TRD racing exhaust, interior illumination in blue, and 18 inch specialty alloys(which are a pointless extra $1000 considering it comes stock with sexier alloys)

If they don’t throw any of it in, tell her dealerships charge up the butt for accessories and install. She has some options: ask them to match a low parts price (I will tell you below), buy the parts herself and install, or you (good friend install price or bj) can install. I know all of those acessories, none of them is a big deal except for the lowering springs. All others are 1 he jobs (beer run included)

They are a toyo dealer too. Also check ebay listings, many dealers offload parts there. Oh and the .5 inch drop is really pointless, that’s like being half pregnant. Either lower it or leave it stock.

as for accessories all we really want is the interior illumination, fogs, interior illumination, and the lip spoiler, i’ll check out that website and see what we are looking at cost wise

Corolla S is a 4 door Tc. That everyone doesn’t have and it looks 100 times better.
Beck the offer is much appreciated but she’s not too hot for the corolla, not to mention if it were me i’d rather have the 2.4L engine over the 1.8L with 4 doors and I’m not so sure we could get the Corolla XRS for a better price than the Scion. Furthermore, we both know how trivial it is but she really wants the interior illumination and the back hatch rather than just a trunk. Though i’ll bring up the matrix with her if you are willing to cut a deal on one of those, considering I am big fan and, alongside the rabbit/GLI are one of the only hatchbacks I personally like.
i’d cut you a deal more so on a matrix than a corolla.
