so i got a laptop from my friend for free, he was having a few problems with it. i ran ubuntu off of a disk and it told me hard drive failure was eminent!
so i bought a new hd, put it in. i tried to install windows xp before ubuntu (the gf likes windows better) and i kept getting an error while windows is starting to install - pci.sys is corrupted. press any key to continue (which then restarts the computer)
it appears as if ubuntu is installing fine as we speak, so it seems as if this is only a fggt window issue
Boot into Ubuntu, delete the pci.sys from X:\Windows\System32\Drivers…copy a known good pci.sys from a windows machine with the same XP version and SP.
Remove all PCI cards and pci.sys isn’t needed.
I keed I keed.
Don’t you need to install Ubuntu first then windows? I thought that was the order I did it in back in the day. Ubuntu has a boot loader I think it like you to use. No?
Note: I haven’t touched Ubuntu for many years. LOL
