Need help specing Car Audio :)

crossfire amps are nice. never really head an issue with them.

trade me the club for a 10" sub then

well i gave in. i’m going to be using my alpine cda-9811 to simplify this thing and save a lot of money and frustration. i still am pretty bad with this stuff though. next question:

on page 38, if i use items 10-17, will that use the amp power from the head unit or the factory amp?

the goal is to use my alpine unit amp for the primary 4 speakers, then connect my separate sub amp to connection 22. i will either eliminate the monsoon amp function, or use it for the far rear 4x2’s for some filler.

thanks for any help, its much appreciated

and to layout the big picture… this is what i have planned so far:

Head Unit

Alpine CDA 9811

RMS Power Output 23 watts
Peak Output 50 watts
CEA Compliant —
RMS Power Bandwidth N/A
Preamp Outputs 6-channel
Sub Preamp Outputs Yes
Preamp Voltage 4 volts

(4) 6.5" Coaxials (fed by alpine cda 9811)

Polk db651 6.5"

RMS - 60
Freq 35hz-22khz
peak - 180

Rear Filler

maybe use stock 4x2 fed by stock monsoon amp

Model Name : 11Kv.2 Subwoofer
Available Voice Coils : Dual 2 - or - Dual 4

Good call on the Polk db series…I had 4 of them in my previous car and they sounded great (although they were components not 2-way).

Drop the rear filler speakers all together, with the 4 2-ways you’ll have, you won’t need them.

quick question…

went with the the Nine4 amp, and 2ohm DVC sub.

2 channels will feed my front two door speakers @ 4ohms, and the other two channels will be bridged to feed my sub at 2ohms, which is the most (or least) the amp can handle.

my question is, do i hook the DVC sub up in parallel or series?

here are the specs:
sub: http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_info.php?t=0&products_id=30
amp: http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_22&products_id=46

and if my math is correct, i can expect about 300w rms to feed my sub while my other two channels are supplying 65w rms?

forgive my noobness

someone answer plz thx

UGH painful you are.

Series wiring Each coil at 2 OHM wired in series = 4 OHM

Parallel wiring each coil at 2 OHM = 1 OHM

:banghead:

hmm… i dunno if this amp can handle 1ohm. it is the combo they recommended, and they offer the same sub in a dual 4, which could be wired to 2. so i dont understand why they’d give me this one if i can produce most out of 2 ohms

well you should be able to run the sub and amp at 4 ohms right?

yes. if i run two of the channels at 4 ohms, do i have to run the bridged two channels at 4 or can i go to 2?

the front two channels will be supplying coaxials at 4 ohms each.

Model Name : NINe.4 Amplifier
RMS Power @ 12.5v : 4 x 65W @ 4 Ohm, 4 x 100W @ 2 Ohm
RMS Power (Bridged) @ 12.5v : 2 x 150W @ 4 Ohm

i was thinking i would be getting close to 300w rms for the sub. im not looking for brute power, im looking for SQ with some thump. but im starting to think i should have gone with the dual 4 instead of the dual 2, BUT THAT IS WHAT THEY RECOMMENDED :gotme: obviously i would want to get the most out of the setup, and the sub is just getting into the recommended power at 300watts rms

you just anwsered your own question

what, should have gone dual 4?

I think the rms for that sub is 300 and the max is 600 so if you’re setup has about 300 going to the sub then it should be perfect.

ya but i think the amp only supports 150watts bridged at 4ohms. i need to bring it down to 2ohms to make closer to 300watts, and since i have a dual 2ohm voice coil sub, i can only get 1 or 4 ohms depending on how i wire it, if i am thinking this correctly.

I follow what you’re saying I think…

So basically you think you bought an underpowered amp?

no, i think i bought the wrong voice coil sub.

D2 DVC vs D4 DVC.
they recommended the D2, but i think they screwed up and i should have got a D4. ill talk to their tech department tomorrow and get it situated.

like i said im looking for SQ not deafening thumps. i had a baby amp fueling my 12" JLw0 in my blazer back in the day and that hit pretty hard. i see too many 12310293 watt shit amps powering shit subs and it sounds like shit.

I hear their support is great… post back with how they help you.
