Q&A Car AUDIO

Ask any question about CarAudio, from installation to tuning.

Alex, whats tuning? :lol ;D Mine’s a day job once you start :crackup

what wattage should the amp im gonna buy be if im going to be running one 12" rockford fosgate P1
specs are here: http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/product_details.asp?cat_id=4&series_id=31&family_id=9&item_id=91795&locale=en_US

if you are only going to be running one, a 300watt amp would be sufficient. i would recommend a jbl or kenwood MONOBLOCK class D amp… you can run a class AB amp and bridge it as well… if you can find them, a jbl cs300.1 class D monoblock is what im running right now and its crisp clean power…for a very inexpensive pricetag… the key is to have it tuned properly… not alot of gain useage or “bass boost” just let the amp do its thing without trying to overpower it.

The sub you looking at is 150watt RMS so any amp that’s mono and is about 200watts will be fine. Make sure you wire ur sub to be 4 ohms because 8 ohms might be a little bit too much for an amp.

a quality amp can handle a 1ohm load as well. 1 ohm will yield the most power from the amp.

he doesnt need a 1ohm stable amp. those are for SPL, they sound like ass, but theyre loud. You basically want to run whatever factory specs are +/- 50 watt. 200-300watt will be sufficent. Just remember that if you dont know how to tune it, dont. Ask somebody that knows or just go to a shop, pay them like 25-30 bucks for a half hour with it and itll sound normal.

lol i’m toying with the idea of using both 12" subs now but i dunno if they will both fit in my trunk as easily. here’s what i’m workin with

how much difference do u guys think will it make running two 12s in regards to power/quality/distortion/rattling/if its even worth it…?

I own 2 amps that are running in 1 ohm, 1 ohm doesnt mean that its only for spl, running a single sub with dual voice coils can put you into a 1 ohm load or multiple amps/sub combos. tuning is huge with any system and leave it to someone who knows whats going on it can make a system that sounds bad sound worse, and as for the 2 12’s what kind of box do you plan on using and how do you want to arrainge everything

you can fit 2 12’s but u wont have much usable trunk space. u can save the most if you go with shallow mounting depth subs. if you want to save the most space u can do stealthboxes, but its more expensive. you basically fabricate the enclosure into your rear quater panels. this gives u the most usable trunk space but it comes at higher cost.

personally i dont like running at 1ohm, itll be louder, but im not so concerned with having people hear me 4 blocks away. im shootin for clarity

Who want’s to take a look at and possibly re-run the wiring for my stereo.

all I know is I have two MB Quart tweeters, two stock tweeters, and two stock mids up front, and a pair of MB Quart 5.5"s out back…and two MB Quart crossovers up front.

I don’t think they’re wired correctly, plus it’s really messy but I have no idea what I’m doing.

So help.

come to my house, we can yank it all out and rewire it so its normal. set u up a normal front stage.

You would be my hero!

come over to keep me company when i do mine and ill help you out with yours n/p

ok well ive decided to use both subs. now im wondering about how to wire them. the wiring diagram in the manual that came w/ them is tellin me nominal impedance is 8ohms. does that mean i wire them parallel or series? also im prob gonna have to get a different amp. since the one sub is 150rsm 300max does that mean having the two in raises it to 300rsm 600max?
if so im thinkin about one of these http://www.polkaudio.com/caraudio/products/c500_1/

yea, that amp will work. take a look in the manual and see how they suggest to wire it. there will be diagrams in it. let me know if u need help with wiring or anything

hey gimme a call when you’re doing that stuff ok?

will do, mang

ok so this is how it all turned out
