hey, that looks good! i like it. any build photos? and do you mean the RCA or the remote wire?
um the only photos i’ve got of the build would be here http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2428827/2
I have a wire that goes from the car battery to the trunk, one thats connected to a ground as well (the guy i bought her from a couple yrs back had a system so he just left those wires). Then the subs have a set of wires that came with each of them that connect from the sub to the amp i’m guessing, but they don’t have any connectors or anything on them, they’re just wires. I’d imagine I also need a wire that connects from the amp to the headunit, but I don’t know where i’d get that
…i’m new to this stuff if you couldn’t tell :
I can have a look at it for you if you want. you can stop by my house this week sometime and we’ll figure this mess out no problem. do you need my cell #?
yeah sure, u can pm it to me or somethin. im actually gonna be in indiana for the weekend tho, so maybe sometime after monday?
yea, sure. give me a ring when you get back and we’ll get it straightened out. i’ll PM you my number
alright well i decided to buy this new power cable and ground and stuff to go to my amp.
the one that’s there right now looks wider than this, but is a few yrs old and it seems like a pretty shoty job the last guy did. this one is apparently 10 AWG and also has a fuse attached right on it, it’ll be goin to my 500watt amp. n e thoughts on how it will work?
get 4 gauge
ok good, that’s what i got.
unfortunately my plans r being foiled; the silicone sealant that i put around the taillights last year isn’t holding up well. went to install the amp the other day and found a pool of water under my subs. luckily no damage, but i had to take everything out and start over with that damn seal :angry2 so basically i have to wait it out until i get this problem solved. it’s raining out right now so i checked & no leak, but yesterday running the hose over it, it was still leaking a bit.
has anyone else noticed that i’m like the only one posting on this audio Q&A? haha
well since i have nothing else to do right now i’ll ask another question. the guy i bought my car from a couple years ago left one of these in the center console
it looks like my amp has an input for it so i think i’ll hook it up. it pretty much looks like a phone jack. what is it just RJ11 wire?
most likely, if not it might be a RJ45. My Rockford Fosgate amps were RJ45.
idk if its an rj45 cable or not, but i know what youre talking about. my rockfords have that as well as my threeseixty.2
see if u can find its native wire. overall, u dont really need the knob, just get it tuned right and leave it be. let me know when you solve your moisture problem and we can have a good look at the car and go from there.
hmmm… well my actually my amp is a polk c500.1 and it has a 4 pin jack, similar to the infinity remote. the rj45 has 8 pins tho :confused
ya i know i don’t need it, but i figure if one song has a lot of bass and one doesn’t it will be easier/quicker just to turn it down a bit with that rather than go thru the settings on my deck
if ur amp didnt come with one of those knobs from the factory, it wont work.
1)remove the one in the car
2)promptly place in garbage
3)???
4)profit
but srsly, it wont do anything, although! not all hope is lost. I have a device that will not only enable you to turn a knob and “make your songs bump more” but will clean up the signal going into your sub amp, but will also boost the voltage on it. its cheap, and easy to install and use. i used to use it in my previous car for just that. let me know if youre interested. im not using it now because I have something much more powerfull, more convoluted and HELLAS more expensive. about 15 times as expensive. you can come get it today if you so wish.
If your deadset on using the remote gain knob, im sure I have quite a few of the cables laying around. I never use em, and lord knows I have a shitload of audio equipment laying around this place, Ive got a whole spare bedroom of boxes and equipment LOL
ok everything is wired up, but im having trouble with the remote wire. apparently its the one that goes from the deck to the amp so that it powers on only when the deck/car is on. my friend and i had it all wired up and it had power going to it, but nothing going to the remote power input (farthest right next to the power and ground
we had no luck figuring out where to attach the other end of the wire we put here. we checked the back of my head unit but couldn’t find anywhere it would go. my friend decided to loop the remote wire over to the 12+ power input, which thus gave us power to the subs, but didn’t allow me to turn off the amp. now it stays on, drawing power from my battery even when the car is off. we just finished wiring up everything an hour ago and the subs r kicking good. his idea was to split a fuse from the fuse box and run a wire from that to a switch that would be somewhere in the car, and then run a wire from the switch to the remote power input. it would allow me stop the amp from drawing power from the battery, since the remote is going directly to the 12+ right now. i figured that there has got to be an easier way to set this up without having to do all of this. i don’t see why any company would require such a ghetto installation.
ive since found this site http://www.fixya.com/support/t631386-wiring_instructions explaining the wiring diagram of my deck. i don’t want to go taking out my headunit again if i am wrong, but it looks to me like the one that says blue (if somethings not already there) would be the one where my wire would go… though i don’t understand how i’ll know which one is the blue one if there isnt anything there already… i don’t really know what to do here.
votblindub, if u feel like taking a look at it that’d be cool. i’m so close yet so far
I’m 99.9999% sure your deck has a blue wire, well it did when it was new. Was the deck used? If it was somebody might of ripped the blue wire and pin out of the connector. If that’s the case you’ll either have to get a new deck harness or you might be able to remove an unused wire/pin and reinstall it in place of the blue one. Just make sure you don’t rip the pin out, use a pick or small screwdriver and release the tab holding the pin in the connector.
If you have to run a wire tap into the red wire from your deck.
i bought the deck new. what i was concerned about what how do i find the “blue wire” when its the female end that i will be putting this new wire into. is there a blue wire already in there that i have to remove to put this new one in, or a blank spot i have to find? i’m gonna take the deck out again and take a look at it. if i cant figure it out ill take a pic and put it up and u guys can have at it
In the harness that is plugged into the deck there is a blue wire and a blue with white stripe. The blue wire might have a connector on it or it might be a small loop on the end with a sticker. Anyway, attach your amp remote turn-on wire to that blue wire that goes into the deck. As soon as you see the wire it should be pretty obvious.
:mwahaha that blue wire was there so i grabbed that and it worked!!
thnx ninety1two40
heres a small tip for amateur audio installers and enthusiasts: if youre hooking something up straight to the battery that will draw current when the car is off, put a simple toggle switch on it, so its off when you dont need it.
Almost every response to every question or statement, in every thread in this section, make me throw up in my mouth a little. Travis’ rant about BCMs in chryslers especially. I’m not trying to put anyone down here, but don’t give advice unless you have experience. I bet Travis has never put actuators in a Liberty, and some other people have never done other shit. Working in a retail location (IE Best Buy, Circuit City) does not make you a good installer. Passing your basic MECP installer test does not make you an installer. EXPERIENCE makes you an installer. I started off in the field by doing stereos in my driveway. I worked for Best Buy after that. I passed my MECP before I ever did an alarm or remote start in my life. The first one I did at besy buy got towed because I was left there to do it with no help. I left that company and started working for a privately owned shop, where I learned more skills and was able to pick up speed. I’ve been in the industry for over 10 years now. I know my shit. Please don’t hesitate to ask me a question.
