Q&A Car AUDIO

Agreed, Ive seen some odd advice round here. Ive never done rs/lrm work (outside of the toyota factory stuff at work which is a cake walk) but ive had plenty of years of audio experience, as well as competiting nationally in SPL

I’ve actually done the same thing kinda. Messed with car audio/remote start at home. Went to work for Best Buy in crossgates as an installer for a couple years and picked up a MECP. But then I moved out of car audio/remote starts and retail to something I really was interested/challenged in.

Looking to run two 12" volfenhag subs. 1000w max and 500w RMS. Nominal Impedance 4 ohms. Whats a good amp to use to run these?

i had a set of two 12 inch wolfenhags. they sound decent. mine were the aluminum cones. as far as amps go, you can go with something thats 750-1000 and you’ll be okay. what is your price range? i would also suggest a 1F cap to go with an amp over 600 and under 1000watt. it’ll help reduce the powerdrain on your electrical components as the bass hits. I’d suggest a Rockford Fosgate P500-2 amp. Their site lists them at 450 dollars. Rockford’s current stuff sounds very nice and clean IMO considering you’re not spending 2K on an amp like that. What enclosure are you running them in? What car will this be in? What is your general plan for the setup?
This is what the amp looks like

Its going to be in a 97 ford explorer. I have a subzone ported box for them. I’m not looking to spend that much so i was looking to get a volfenhag amp as well cause their not mainstream so their prices arent as high. Millionbuy.com has a couple of them that i was looking at.

JL 1000/1

end thread

what?

those are going to be WAY outside his price range, Travis.

rememb,er, you get what you pay for. My 12’s blew up with under 500 to each within a week. Then I got new ones and sold those right away. Try to find a JBL BP1200.1 amp, that will work as well. I had one of those and its just great.

i love those. 1 kilowatt of clean power

Ha, I didnt even read a post on this thread. I just came in and posted that. People don’t realize how much more powerful this amp is then a Rockford, MTX, etc in the REAL WORLD car stereo envrionment. Regulated power supply… :bowdown :bowdown :bowdown :bowdown

personally i like the slash series vs the e series. a lot of ppl bitch about them though.

I dunno Travis. My Hifonics Zues amp was simply retarted when it came to power and clarity. I couldnt turn it up over half power on my Eclipse titanium sub because it made my window hatch flex and could flip a quarter on my roof panel!

sickkk lol

You obviously know nothing about car stereo. That amp is only 4 ohm stable. He’s running 2 4 ohm subs. Thats a 2 ohm load.

Besides that, Fosgate hasn’t made any quality products in the past 8 years. They sold out to the retail market.

=/

The gain knob has nothing to do with it, the gain is just the multiplication factor of the input signals strength. It is a good amp though!

had a similar problem in my old escort. i blew the sunroof open and had to tape it closed because half the bolts shot out of it and i couldnt find them
