you mean better with the second amp? yea i think so. i think i’m going to do it
the head unit has time alignment, and from what everyone says the pre-outs seem to be a step above the majority… :gotme: i guess the only thing its lacking is a nice equalizer function. to be honest, idc, it should be more than enough for me. im not going to go REAL crazy, i’ve already spent enough!! i should be doing this to my denali, not the car i barely drive LOL.
i was actually thinking about getting a cheap amp and putting my JL 12w0 in my truck… i still have the box and everything. its been collecting dust for years now. only problem is, i think theres a dent in the center of the cone… i gotta stop spending money :picard: and i thought that thing hit hard… it only had 120w going to it, lol
my eclipse 8053 puts out 16volts balanced or 8volts unbalanced and undriven. your alpine is probably overrated at 4.
it’s not everything and I’m sure it sounds great to you… but the cleaner and stronger the signal you give your amps, the less gain you need, the cleaner it sounds, and on rolls the snowball.
at the same time, I have to remind myself that is a car with a lot of noise when driving so you have to give up at some point.
well i bought the alpine mrp-m500 amp. car audio can be had WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY cheaper on ebay. i normally dont buy from ebay often, but god damn!
from crutchfeild the amp was 200$ + shipping with 1year warranty.
i got if from another site for $150 shipped with a 2 year warranty. now i just need to swap the sub, get a box, and all the wires/cables. i also ordered some monster cable 4 channel RCAs for $15 shipped that go for $130 LOL. i know RCAs arent real critical as long as you dont get complete shit, but what the hell, they are real good and pretty cheap.
questions:
i know amp wiring kits can be had cheap, but i think i am going to just piece it together myself so it is cleaner, and im not missing certain items due to two amps and 5 channels… so:
-both amps suggest 8ga power cables, but audio people tend to say go with 4ga. the 4 channel will be powering 65w rma x 4 @ 4ohms and the mono will be 500wrms x 1 @ 2ohms.
-i want to run a 1 in 2 out distribution power block to clean up the cables… anything i should look for or stay away from? it will be sealed with a fuse. im liking the 10-15$ ebay ones. bad? also, for the fuse, do i just get the combined amperage of the amps?
-power cable, same as normal battery power cable? i’d like to use the stuff we have at work to save some money if its the same stuff.
-speaker wire… what should i use (does it matter) and who has is cheap?
-also still need RCAs for my mono… ideally id like the same style i got for the 4channel, but only if i find a good deal again. any other suggestions?
in my old 3rd gen i had a nice alpine headunit, subthump dual 12 box, 2 12inch niche,s and a alpine 400 watt monoblock, and infinity front and rears, withthe amp tuned correctly and bass down it sounded really clear and had some thump without drowning out the words
i’m actually playing with the idea of picking up a cheap amp and putting my old JL 12w0 in my truck… i have a box and everything for it, but just want to explore my options before i did anything…if i do. if i did this it would REALLY be on the budget.
i know JL makes a center counsel stealth box, but i dont want that. i’d be stuck with the supplied JL sub, the counsel is carpet and would look dumb with the leather all around it, and it is $$$$$$$$$$$$$…
does anybody know who makes nice STEALTH ENCLOSURES for a 2002 GMC Denali?
i may even go the same route i went in the car if i did this… eD 11Kv2 with Alpine mrp.m500… but that would be on the high side.
ideally id just plop my 12" JL with the universal box its in in the truck, and buy a $80 mono amp and $15 DBLink amp kit and call it a day
You dont need a stealth enclosure inless u live in the gheto! j/k I would just get a regular box your trucks stock tint would probly be enough to hide it, just be smart and keep it low when in your neighborhood or parking in certain areas.
and a regular box would probly be cheaper and easier to find, or use what you have
nothing special. only problem is, i think that center cone part on mine is slightly pushed in. i would think it would pop back out. there aren’t any tears or cuts or anything that i know of. its been sitting in my attic above the garage for like 2-3 years though  i just can’t believe my new little 10" sub is capable of 5x the output of this thing though. i didn’t realize this one was so weak. sounded good/loud enough for me :gotme:
that WO in a reg cab or even extended cab truck will be plenty loud with 100 watts. They dont need much juice
Yes the new subs are louder, but from my personal experience, alpine subs are not as clean and tight as the JL stuff, but its about $$$ at that point. JL isnt cheap. Your setup will still rock.
personally for a cheap clean sounding sub u like the infinitys that used ot be out the all creame colored ones, there really light so they can move fast and there clear sounding in a nice sealed box
finally got my other sub down from the attic. surprisingly still pretty clean minus the dent in the cone i mentioned. was talking to choko and he said to suck the dent up with some vacuum hose, which is easy enough.
i was doing some quick research to see how to power this thing. its only a SVC 4ohm rated at 125w rms 300w peak. reading the reviews, i knew i wasn’t nuts saying this doesn’t need much power to hit HARD and more importantly CLEAN. people were saying they were out-hitting other peoples 800-1000w+ systems. wayyyy more than enough for me  its just an entry level sub, but like the camaro deal, im just looking for some added bass. the camaro will be much more fine tuned with more SQ, and the sub will be capable of a lot more than this, but afterall i wasn’t looking to do anything to the truck
im going to buy this, which is a mono version like what i had in the car before the fire… inexpensive but people say its pretty good quality for a sub. either way, im looking to get this in the truck cheap:
$75 new with warranty shipped from a dealer on ebay. its a Profile mono rated at 220w rms at 4ohms. has remote, line level connections, blah blah blah.
ill take most of the amp cabling i had in the camaro from before, just need some RCAs.
total project cost is about $85 for some JL thump in the Denali
True i dont use the back of my truck too much at all, but the seats fold if needed. JL’s are known for being a great product so good luck with your thump.
