OK, so I made a complete coilover setup for the focus a little over a year ago…
I currently have threaded sleeves over replacement shocks with 1&7/8" I.D. springs installed, but I’ve been experiencing a squeek for months now over bumps and now I know whats going on…since I bumped up spring rate, the thicker spring doesnt have enough clearance from the collars and as the spring compresses it rubs on the threads of the collar, making the squeek.
Current springs look lik this:
I can easily remedy this situation if I can find springs like this:
where the end coils are 1&7/8" I.D. but the rest of the spring is wound at a slighly larger diameter. 300lb rate, 8" length.
Any ideas? this spring pictured is 15" length which is far too long, and the ends are 2.25 and 2.5" I.D. (its for a camaro)…but it’s exactly what the spring I need has to look like…
what I put together is VERY similar to “Ground Control” brand setups…however the focus kits have the spring and adjustable perch in a cup in the lower control arm (wishbone suspension) rather than a true spring-over-shock setup…so I built one that was spring-over-shock, it MAY help if I go to smaller spring I suppose…but that kind of eliminates the point of being able to adjust ride height
