Need Honda Experts

Ok, my buddy jsut bought a 98 civic with a b18 type r in it. The guy who owned it before dropped a auto tranny in it for his girlfriend.

If you need more info on it let me know, but what tranny is best for it I know shit bout civics… so does he haha

I just had a thread opened on that. I’ll see if I can find it.

And a type-r with an auto??? i doubt any guy into honda’s would do that…sure it’s a type r?

B18 means shit on the block its the head casting numbers you need to check. also, gsr heads and type r heads are hard to tell apart. and a red valve cover means shit.

thanks man, and my buddy bought it i havent seen it yet, im leaning towards it could be jsut a b18 with type r stickers on it or someshit, he didnt pay alot for it, he says it pulls hard but i unno bout it, apperently he made it auto for hsi gf i unno but thanks, ill check that thread

the block does tell you… im an ex honda owner!!

just ignore all the bs in that thread. a lot of mixed opinions. but you can make a bias out of it.

good luck

…the block tells you what the BLOCK is…B18C is a GSR yes, but how do you know that it has a GSR head on it still? You don’t. Check castings on head.

/end

ys1 LSD or a type r tranny cant go wrong with either- i had a built r in my crx with a ys1 lsd

what should the casting numbers be if its a type r head? gsr head? appreciate the help guys keep it comin

^^ ur correct. when i use to buy honda engines i would take the valve cover off to check the valve springs cause they different in the series. anyways thats my 0.02

you’ll find plenty of honda experts there

castings numbers i do not remember at all…sorry man.

torontocivics isnt bad too. we dont deal with wit dem honda’s round here’ lol

on the contrary my freind , all u have to do is look at the intake manifold, and if u know ur worth in salt as far as hondas go ull know what it is … if u dont know im not gonna explain cuz really it that simple LOL hint bro, intake manifold, i dont care if it has an aftermaket manifold… u can still tell

and to u folk that say the b16 bottom end is silly to use with the top end , please explain why? id liek to know seeing as how there is actually on simple reason why it is the best IF u are building a motor that u want to rev to high hell( u have a honda) and keep together ur rod/stroke ratio as well as your rod ratio, yes they are different and the b16 is perfect, OH and u want a badas tranny that will make that shit rip … JDM CIVIC type Roh while ur at it get a lightened flywhell and a really good clutch, dont over do it tho guy honda thrust bearings dont like heavy loads being slammmed on them over and over , if anything get a type r head , and swap in some JDM Civic type R cams in it… that combo with a jdm civic type r tranny or a N/A Integra type r tranny… holy jebus hold on high 12s here we come

^^^
very good points. yet it still comes down to people swapping parts. I would never look at an intake mani along with a red valve cover and assume it’s a true type-r.

your B16 theory…how right you are…but then again. what do we know. We’re nissan boys now right???

meh… its a honda… i know the honda game very well… its hard not too when 60% of ur client base is honduh headz

Spoken like a true honda booooooooooooooi! LoL

Hector man, i got another buddy who wants a zc or b16 swap in his civic, what are your prices like, if you send me a pm ill linx it to my buddy (number too)
thanks for the help everybody

type r block will say b18c5 i also think that a jdm motor may differ slightly in code not sure and the head imma look at my buddys motor

post pic and ill tell you what motor it is type r head and gsr head have diff intake manifolds and they cant be sawpped around (itr to gsr diff head bolt pattern) maybe its not even a B maybe its a D and just says vtec on the valve cover as i said post pic it will help
