Need some tool storage HELP.........

Ive been looking at getting a 13 drawer roller tool chest lately as a late Christmas gift. I know it sounds cheap but Ive really been pulled towards the Harbor freight Tool chest that they have on sale from time to time for $299.

But lately Ive also been considering one of these:

Its called a Cantilever Tool Box and seems like it would work out well for the time being.

Right now I have a 1 car garage with a work area in front of the car. I was planning on getting the roller unit so that I could use the top for a work surface too. Now Im having seconds thoughts just because of the size of the unit. If I move in to a different apartment and it doesnt have a garage, then what do I do with the roller unit? Its a little more than I need for right now but It seems like its a steal for the price and I can fill it up over time. I like having an organized garage and storage unit so having the extra space is deffinitely a good thing but If I can find a Cantilever Tool Box that allows for organization like the picture shows, then I think that would suffice. Right now Im using a normal cheap tool box that has the tray in the top and the storage underneath it. I HATE HATE HATE having to dig through everything to find what I need. I need organization.

What are your thoughts? Where could I get a Cantilever Tool Box from? What are your tool storage solutions?

yikes…don’t even consider the HF box…they are garbage…cheap flimsy drawers…
I bought the top portion of a husky chest at home depot…3 large drawers, plus the top…its pretty massive, and has the nice heavy duty drawers with ball bearing slides for $99…if your budget is in the $300 range, there are MUCH better options than HF.

As for the other one, it reminds me of a tackle box LOL…looking at the Cantilever box and what it can hold…the chest would be a bit overkill…

I say with limited space and depending on how many tools you have, a chest with a worktop is what you would probably get the most use out of.

It’s SO nice having a toolbox with a top that doubles as a workbench. That’s all I have to add.

You might be able to get a percentage off at Home Depot tool boxes since they are offering the discounts on storage. Worth looking into.

Check out kobalt boxes at lowes, good quality and very reasonably priced

LOL

I 2nd that.

Also, Lowes was running 20% off tool chests recently. Check to see if they still are.

Regarding the HF chest, its not horrific. Not something that a mechanic would use, but suitable for the average weekend warrior.

I have a big Craftsman box that works well i guess, ask firehawk853 or turbols1ss because its in their garage and they use all my tools

check out sears

im sure its been said, but stay away from harbor freight and go with Craftsman. Also, it has been my experience, that no matter what you get, get the ball bearing drawers. I have a 3-tier Craftsman setup that I got as a christmas gift a few years back when i just had some basic tools. Now that I have a shit ton more tools, I realize how inferior the non-ball bearing drawers are. My 2 smaller boxes with the smaller drawers up top are ok as long as i hit the sliders with a shot of white lithium grease once and a while, but the roll away sucks because you cant put more than 20lbs in those big drawers or else they fall apart (literally). I assume that most people are like myself in that I keep my bigger, bulkier tools that I dont use as often in the bottom drawers of the box. it sucks because I cant put that much in them, so its a waste of space. just my .02
