I apologize for the crappy pics. Wife says I’m not allowed to bring the camera to work anymore because I “mess it up” (yet leaving it in the sand on the beach is fine ) I’m getting hounded to start taking pics of some of my work here and since there’s no prototype non-disclosure agreement on this I can do it :haha
Couple crap pictures of the 3" exhaust I made for JVG’s '91 audi 90, soon to be bearing some kind of snail in the right fender. Tight fit up over the rear subframe, other than that pretty simple. Currently hooked up to the OE downpipe, so it’s 2.5" up through the flex then steps up to 3" before the cat… That will be cut off and replaced by 3" when Jon gives me the go ahead to build the turbo system and new DP for it.
Had to take these on the droid, dragged it into his kitchen to take the shots as his garage is cluttered all to fuck right now.
Pic of a weld. Still getting over this flu/virus shit I’ve had for a couple weeks now. Can’t keep my eyes focused for shit up close and can’t keep my torch height steady because of it. Not my best work but ohwell. Just an audi anyway :lol
Thanks mr Saakyan! Did you get said roaster running yet, or am I going to have to send a trailer to you to fetch the car :tongue
All three of my Tig welders are liquid cooled. IMO and experience the benefits outweigh the initial costs and in this case, the carting around of the coolmate to the job site.
Car is technically movable under stock ecu, otherwise quite towable by a flatbed which I can get without a problem. Plus with a generator I think most will be plausable in the garage.

I’ll get ahold of you as soon as the 996 is done
Anywho, do you typically use a J bend or U bend?
Depends on the job and the material. JVG bought this cheap crap for his exhaust off some place online. Told him to never to buy from them again. Diameters and CLR’s of the bends were all inconsistent, tubing was deformed and misshapen all over the place. Plus the material came shipped coated in bending grease with debris and contaminants all over it. Contemplated making him send it back but said fuck it and busted out the acetone and rags.
Is there a website you use as supplier?
Yessir. 304/316ss/625 Woolf Aircraft. 321ss from SPD exhaust. 3/2.5 and 6/4 Ti via TMS. I buy from places that specialize in those materials. You get better and cleaner product that way. If I short myself on an order or just need a small piece I’ll just have JVG or Dave @ Inline get something from Vibrant as my accounts have minimum order requirements(wholesale)
That’s partially the reason I asked. I’ve seen Dave use Vibrant to some success in the past and it was stocked at my Advance down the road. As a company I’ve also had good experience with the muffler I’ve bought for the Subaru.
You could touch on your liquid setup for the tig, seeing as you’ve build most of the setup and a liquid cooled setup is rarely seen in most shops.
I don’t have much Tiging experience myself but I do know that welding dirty metal sucks, which is why the welds look quite impressive.
Yup, turbo the 7a. I’m going to be building him a setup to bolt onto the 7a and MS the car. Just turn him loose and go have fun till it pops. We have a VGC 7a bottom end at the machine shop that I’m going to build a forged motor for him eventually. I plug away at his projects here and there when I’m not tied up in other stuff or waiting for things to come in.
For 304 there’s nothing wrong with Vibrant material other than the damn price you pay for what you’re getting. They charge more than necessary for the material, but at least you get something that’s halfway decent. The do make good mufflers though. Can’t go worng with them there(that’s a Vibrant muffler on JVG’s exhaust up there)
Most places don’t use liquid cooled setups because they either a) don’t require the duty cycle at high amperage or b) don’t require the really small torches. I require both on a regular basis.
I didn’t build that liquid system on the Lincoln. It’s just my original Procon pump from 1995 that was on my large miller 475 at the time that I adapted to the p-tig(machine was originally air cooled) I just made a much larger 18 gallon coolant reservoir on top of the machine to try the system out w/o using a radiator. Seems to be working fine even during summer temps. Coolant didn’t even hit 85F on those oppressively hot days we had. On my dynasty I have a coolmate system(internal radiator, closed loop liquid), and on the larger miller I have a direct pump that’s tapped into city water, open loop. Water just dumps down the drain(it’s clean/non contaminated) That machine even with water cooling it gets HOT when cranking it(max 460amps) on the aluminum. Probably going to retire that one soon, and I’m probably going to sell the lincoln as well as I want to buy another dynasty(375 maybe this time). Get down to two machines. I don’t do as much structural welding anymore to require the big machine.
adam i might have a job for you when your free. I got an mk3 supra which i want to ship to a team member in fl but needs to be running well enough to get on and off a trailer. Currently has hole in block but i got most of the parts needed for it. Let me know if your able to help sir.
Vlads statement is true and he speaks of this first hand with his poor miata. I am typically booked out minimum 3 months, upwards of 6-8 on average. ~100-110 hours a week is the norm here lately. Would love to help otherwise.
back purged? or solar flux’d?
tungsten and dia, how did you dress it?
Cup size? gas lenses?
trailing gas?
how long a bead do you run between starts and stops? As far as you can without being all twisted up, or inch, stop post flow, inch stop post flow…?
thank you for your time,
Mike (boxersex apprentice member id 34)
I’ll be honest with you. I wouldn’t normally let anyone touch anything of mine for free let alone pay for it. Your quality of work and knowledge is outstanding, and I would gladly pay you to work on anything of mine. These motherfuckers who’s cars your working on should consider themselves lucky.
I honestly hope we get the chance to work together on something sometime. I could learn a lot.
