So my buddy n i went n got a red 94 ls integra and are planning to do some minor things to it performance wise. we want to go with full bolt ons and cams w/ tune but we arent really sure what kind of cams to use. this is basically going to be his daily driver til he can afford a new car once january rolls around since he needed 1200 to get his car to pass inspection n it isnt even worth that much. basically we arent looking to go balls out (just yet) but we want to get the most power outta it that we can all motor
so any suggestions with cams? type r? (we dont really want it to lobe a lot)
injen intake, skunk2 header?
it has a magnaflow catback
and what hondata should be used? s100? s200?
is there anything else for power without going f/i or n2o… intake manifold? tb?
we are using it for a project car but he needs to daily drive it for a lil while (not a new car, just a new car to him but used)
oh well i dont know much anything about hondas/acuras so ls non vtec is new news to me lol so youre saying just throw a turbo kit on it and build up the motor? cam it with some turbo cams n will the valvetrain need built up?
i found a few turbo kits and cams (turbo and na) n some supporting mods.
what would a part list be? besides a turbo
pistons n rods, valvetrain, cams, clutch n flywheel… what else?
oh and fmf, can you do any tuning with 05 cobalts? and when my car gets finished again can i still get the december deal for dyno? shouldnt be longer than a few weeks
i think you’ve got alot of researching left to do.
you need to decide on a game plan, first whether or not it will be N/A or Forced Induction, then go from there. Decide how far you wanna go with it and choose parts that will get you to your goal.
My vote is LS turbo, make 250whp safely and you’ll be set.
Full bolt on will be worthless on that ls motor, and cams will be worthless as well being that you won’t have the compression you need to benefit from any cams for n/a.
Like Joe (fmf) said find a t3 based turbo like a 60-1, piece together a turbo kit slap it on the stock block get some good tuning, maybe from joe and let it rip. Do some research first though, good place to start would be www.honda-tech.com and use the search button because there is an abundance of information on that website and if you do go there don’t post a new question about it because they will only give shit, just use the search button and you will find all you need to know.
You dont need to do anything to the motor. Leave it stock as can be the stocker the better for lower power levels. You will need a clutch in time if it doesent hold. Flywheel keep stock too.
As for the 05 Cobalt. Very soon I am going to be stepping into HP tuners and messing around. I am very confident that It will not be in issue for me to learn that software. I jumped headfirst into AEM and Hondata without any issues.
I have a ls-t list for you to get.
1.T3 based turbo of some sort. between a 57-61 trim. TO4E or TO4S.
2.Cast manifold with a 38mm gate hole
3.Tial 38mm gate. with a .5 bar spring.
4.Walboro 255lph
5.DSM 390 or 450 injectors + resistor pack out of 90 accord
6.Get ECU chipped Vtecsol or I can get that chipped for you (around $55)
7.Cluth ACT, Comp or Exedy
8. Intercooler and intercooler pipe. Best way to do it is to have someone make you intercooler pipe.
9.Blow off valve of some sort. a stock DSM one works fine.
10.http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=1902396 oil lines
If you get this list. You will be better off then buying a "kit’.
At all cost Do not look on ebay or anything ssautochrome.
If you got any questions Give me a call 412 818 3007
pm me about the dyno stuff!
I would listen to Joe. I wouldn’t bother with swapping heads or anything. Either put a GSR motor in it or turbo that LS. Turbo LS setups are definitely a blast and last forever at around 250whp.
my friend is using it for a daily driver so not trying to do that
no im 21. i just dont know shit bout hondas or vtec, like variable valve timing. i fully build my motor on my cobalt and can do anything to that car that you want, even gm tech shit like warranty work type stuff
im looking to have 325-350whp, it will be mostly a track car.
thanks, i pretty much got a turbo part list and a good bit of the parts. i want to put down over 300whp. i want to forge the motor turbo it port and polish the head build the valvetrian (if its needed) and maybe some turbo cams. and i am keeping the ls motor. now what do you think? will you tune for it? and what do you think i can pull, power wise?
hpt doesnt support the 2.2 cobalts, only the 2.4, lsj, and lnf motors. only tuning for 2.2 is a company from washington called trifecta performance which i have a program for, its just that i dont think he takes the tunes to the limits and i wanted to dyno tune cuz he told me that if i dyno tuned he could get more power
what are the ls motors capable of handling? power wise. what do the heads rev to safely?
ok now i have a gsr head also but seen i see about building the ls (which in the past i always heard non vtec turbo is the way) what should i do? what will net me more hp? and still keep good tq? a big part of this car is racing a 420whp mustang lol but that is my friends battle. i got my cobalt for my battles like that. and with the programs you have to tune can you go full out adjusting everything, even turn off cel and stuff like that? or is it limited to just ignition/fule tables? what i am used to using is hpt like sct advantage 3.0, fast xfi, or accel dfi i have used aslo
Your confusing me with the cobalt and the honda.
260whp -stock ls
290whp -stock gsr
Add pistons and rods
350whp ls head(stock)
440whp GSR/B16 head these heads will take 8200RPM stock. and flow better.
so that is the most power you can pull stock. so basically it will be better to put the gsr head on and turbo it to get more power? what will the tq do? drop compared to a turbo ls head?
ok so i am going to build the bottom end on ls block then port and polish the gsr head and put some turbo cams in it and turbo it basically. it already has a full msd ignition and catback but i may replace the catback, even tho my friend had a 92 integra turbo with the magnaflow n put down 320whp n it was f’ing loud
If he is just using it untill january y build the engine that much??You will have to go with a better clutch to hold that much horsepower and it will b a huge pita to drive for a daily.Traction will also become an issue after 300whp.iv been in a few turbo hondas 300+hp and from 60rolls there blowing the tires off.plus if you can hook 250whp should be good for atleast a mid 13 i would think with there curb weight. It would also be able to be driven daily but still haul some ass.
