so I listed my snowblower on CL yesterday and got a scam e-mail already and its a new format I havnt seen yet.

Hi I am Lisa,

If you still want to sell the product, send me an email or PM me.

Thanks,Lisa.

I knew it was a scam from the start but figured why not lets play.

I replied:
The snowblower is still for sale. reply back with the following statement to
prove your not an automated scaming e-mail system:

“I am interested in your Bolens snowblower, located in Amsterdam NY”

werd… i dont sell too much on cl… first one I saw that had you click a link like that. maybe the rest I never interacted enough with to get far enough into the replies.

Ive gotten a few bullshit emails that seemed legit at first but turned out to be scams on CL.

Worse to me though is when somebody calls and says theyll come over to look at it at a certain time and never shows up or calls again.

dont get me wrong I use it alot, but this is really the first time I knew right away it was a scam and played along a little to see what happens.

a good way to prevent spam (well not prevent 100% but keep it down to a minimum) is to select the anonymous for your email (so it does not give the link to email you) and then just type you email in the ad somewhere like this: abcdefg (at) hijk.com.
Sure some of you knew that already, but for those that didn’t, I’ve been doing it and I get at most 1 or 2 spam emails when I list something.
