A chip smaller than the head of a pin is placed onto a DVD along with a thin coating that blocks a DVD player from reading critical information on the disc. At the register, the chip is activated and sends an electrical pulse through the coating, turning it clear and making the disc playable.
Pretty cool technology. Doesn’t sound like it would affect making copies once the DVD had it’s chip turned on, since it would have to read just like a normal disk for all the existing dvd players to work.
I’d be worried about getting home and the stupid cashier didn’t unlock it right, and then it won’t play. Think about how many times they forget to remove the security tag properly and the alarm goes off.

yea people get so pissed off when they try to leave and the alarm goes off i cant even imagine what they will do when they get home to watch it and they cant cause it was not activated.
Yeah freaking cashiers cant even deactivate security sensors correctly

as someone who deals with security tags and such i have to stand up here. its not that they cant do it correctly sometimes you forget which ones were done because there are a lot of things to ring or its just busy and you are trying to move everyone along. if u dont people will start bitching about u taking to long.
i sometimes forget to take off the tags, does not happen often but it has happened and people come back screaming line u cant even do a simple thing how are u still working here
Hrmm. If an electrical pulse is all it takes, I can’t see this being that high of a security measure. I’m willing to bet that grill ignitors are going to have a spike in sales if this goes through.
None the less, the logic behind them is actually pretty good, to allow business to take stuff from behind the counter and in to peoples hands.
Please I’ve worked in retail before, did it for over 5 yrs, and had to deal with them all the time…it was a rarity/non-event when I would cash someone out…just laziness if anything
