Anyone have a great success story about a kitchen remodel? We are doing ours and I’m looking for recommendations, suggestions, etc.
garage than Kitchen
What type of info do you need? Here is the thread I started when we redid our kitchen (and roof and wood floor) this past summer. link to thread
If you have any questions let me know.
Just make sure the kitchen is done b4 any other projects are started. Hubby has never gotten around to hanging my hood fan :ugh: It takes what, 2 minutes?
Oh, also choose something neutral, it will show less dirt. Even better if it’s neutral and textured. Our dark grey tile showed ALL the dirt!!!
What kind of counter tops are you going to do?
put a drive thru window in so we dont have to get out of the car to pick up hot wings:bigthumb:
put a bbq grille in the house
black and white checker floor, toolboxes for counter tops, have a big tool box act as an island. make island stools/chairs from old aluminium wheels.
kicthen table can be a old lincoln hood. the chandilier can be made from various auto lights…the sink can be made from a partswasher…
most important–the fridge needs to be an old ass fridge that has a ton of chrome on it --the cadilac of fridges.
thats what i’d do…
So uv seen that episode of Monster House then too:dunno:
i was thinking the SAME thing when i read his post
let me know if your looking for marbel or granite counter tops/tabels
real good buddy of mine works for a company and does side jobs,
If you’re going to do custom cabinets I can give you the name of the guy that did ours. I’m really picky about, well, everything, and I was more than satisfied with the quality of his work. I think he’s out of Bentleyville.
Yeah… I read that thread when you did it… but I was looking for someone to say I worked with so and so and they did a great job.
I’m not 100% sure I’m gonna have hubby do the work for the same reason you mentioned. It seems like when it is usuable is when you lose the “gumption” to get it done. It has happened a couple of time at our house, not just him. So I’m pondering hiring someone to do it.
I’ve been leaning towards a Cherry colored mission style cabinet with possible a black colored counter top, some black moldings at the top.
Not sure what to do on the floor. Probably a wood floor, but we have wood in the rest of the house under teh carpet and I’m afraid if I put wood in the kitchen and it doesn’t match the other wood that we would never be able to re-finish the wood floors in the rest of the house. But I don’t think tile will look right with all that Cherry.
Help please
here are some pictures of cherry cabinets w/ tile floor. I think it would look just fine, you just have to pick something that will compliment the wood color.
Unless you used engineered wood on the floors I’d be very hesitant to use a natural hardwood in a kitchen, but that is just me. I would think after a while and the finish was worn that it would be very prone to water damage in a kitchen…plus like you said, you may not ever get it to match your existing hardwood :dunno:
Possible option on the cabinets that we went with: maple wood with a “cherry” finish. Cherry wood isn’t cheap! Ours are actually darker than a true cherry finish (it’s a cordovan stain), but the texture of the wood is similar.
I don’t think I can afford Corian…
ahhhhhhhhhh NO
