New laptop-plugged in, not charging?

Just got a new laptop, and its battery charged when I first used it. However, when I click the battery icon now, it says “96 percent, plugged in, not charging”. Its holding steady at 96 percent, however not charging. Is this intentional, or is something messed up?

Software be mis reading the battery…

I never trust it anyways

I never go by that meter either. It will say I have 20% and like 30mins left, then 5 mins later say low batt, and shut down. Is the batt not holding a charge? It works when its off its power cord right? I am not really understanding the problem…

Travis-

When you start your computer go into BIOS. For most computer this is done by pressing the F2 button during the splash screen. If it is not F2, it will tell you what key to use. At the bottom of the screen look for the prompt. It will say “Press ‘x’ to enter setup…”

Once you are in BIOS, go to the battery information selection. If the battery is fine, it will tell you that the battery is performing normally. It should also tell you information about your AC Adapter. If it gives you detailed information about your AC Adapter and tell you that your battery is performing normally, then you have a firmware/software issue which I will touch base on in a minute. If the BIOS screen tells you the battry needs to be replaced, then you have a faulty battery. If it tell you the AC Adapter can’t be recognized then you are using the wrong AC Adapter OR your motherboard is shot and needs to be replaced.

IF everything checked out in BIOS, assuming your BIOS has a battery information section, then check the BIOS version against what the PC manufacturer has on their support site as the newest BIOS version. If they are the same your BIOS is fine. If they are different, you will want to flash your BIOS to the newest version. After you have done that, check the battery again.

MOST importantly, make sure your AC Adapter is the correct one for you computer. You can cause a lot of damage by using the incorrect charger.

If you still cant get anywhere with this PM me and I will give you call to help you out.

what kind of laptop is it? Also does the battery have a status button on the battery it self to push and light up some LEDS’? I knows dell batteries do. If you press the button, if the battery is bad, again atleast for dells i know this, the lights will light up everty other one and flash, insteady of hold steady. that shows a faulty battery.

if its a new laptop, its holding a charge when unplugged etc…

Dont worry about it, as stated the batery status bar inside windows is hardly 100% accurate.

Which is why the smart thing to do would be to check BIOS, free from any software to see what is going on with your battery. Not just ignore it as a Windows software problem.

I have worked on litterally thousands of computers and not one single time, did the windows battery meter read a false reading if there wasn’t something wrong or something that needed to be updated.

Shady got pwnd

Check BIOS.

No, not really

As stated, as long as its holding its charge etc… I wouldent worry about it…

If the battery was dieing abnormaly quick etc well then id say something is up

obviously id check bios etc… but like I said if nothing else seems odd its prolly not a big deal

nope, pwned.

Pwnd that the windows battery meter is wrong, I have never had that issue with any laptop I have ever used, ever, in the the entire history of laptops I have used, forever and a day. Amen.

Thanks for the help everyone, it now says ‘charging’. W/E, its Windows garbage, woulda got a Mac if I could of justified the cost.

Of course it wouldn’t be the hardware but Windows.

Be cool and get a MAC and chill at starbucks.

And a Prius is easier to drive than a Top Fuel Dragster.

HP Laptop by any chance?

Mine did this every now and then. Restart the computer and it charges fine

my new lappy works great… just sayin
