Construction has already started and they are currently clearing the land.
The complex will have:
2 mile road course
1/2 mile dirt oval
200mph drag strip
Autocross and Skidpad area
Restaurant & All other VIP amenities
This looks promising! There are pretty big names involved in the project.
The road course section will also have elevation changes which is great, because it makes it a little more advanced track, and if the track map is anything to go by, that will be a pretty fast track!
They are planning to have it open for Labor Day weekend 2012.
LRP is 80 miles from Albany. 2.5 hours is about the same distance to WGI from Albany, and don’t forget Monti.
Don’t get me wrong, any new track is a good thing. The problem is they need to be booked to be sustainable. The good thing is smaller tracks like this may attract more club events at a lower cost from clubs running them, compare to popular tracks around the area. They should really add a dedicated Drift course instead of spending alll the money on a fancy grand stand. A dedicated dirft course will attract a lot more business and provide a venue for drift clubs to host competitions.
If they can create a venue than can do it all, I am sure they will have no issue getting it booked almost all year round.
I am moving the thread to Auto for more exposure. Thanks for the info!
Im surprised theyre actually able to make a new race track anywhere due to disturbing butterflies, hippies, trees, people that build houses right down the road from it, etc.
That front stretch with that corner after is going to be interesting I suppose. My car is just too slow to take advantage of a 1/4 mile long front stretch with that kind of speed carrying corner.
A. one of the backers was the former owner of malta
B. this synthetic dirt is going to be the new latest and greatest.
C. malta will be getting the same dirt shortly
Well you can do NHMS is you plan to ride there, but still it is a 4+ hours ride (NJMP is 6+); it is doable, but I would not recommend riding back on the same day. Ask me how I know…:crackup
Or hit up with someone and rent a party van or get yourself a trailer.
P.S. Get some track gear if you don’t already have them and plan on doing trackdays.
Eh, looks pretty boring to me. Looks like 7 RH turns and 2 LH. That last long turn will eat tires pretty quick. Similar to NJMP Thunderbolt. And I hate that track.
(Could live the rest of his life across from WGI for total happiness.)
