Huh. So is the trim actually wrapped in Vinyl? I never heard of that. That is a really good idea. Did you install it then wrap it? I am a bit confused. Can you explain this a little more?

You take vinyl you install it on the trim. It’s as straight forward as it sounds.

I went to pep boys and bought “trim blackout” Some pieces are easier on the car, some are esiar off the car.

great idea with the vice grips!

I bought some cheap summit racing window cranks and machined an adapter to run them on my gutter power window housings.

Hmm, I’ll check it out. Thanks.

I was thinking more of prep work needed, hit it with a heat gun if it won’t lay right, wrap the edges underneath so the piece actually pinches the vinyl, etc. There are always better ways to do something so why not ask someone that has already done it to see if they learned what NOT to do.

I tried to tuck it under as best I can. There are a few bubbles, but the sun actually heats them out.

Also, for the people saying I’m gonna tear off my fuel pump…

i’d think that a penis of clearance should be fine

hmmm I might have to convert my power windows to manual if it’s really that easy.

Why?

I’ll never understand why people would do this to save at most what…30 lbs? Unless you’re building a hardcore track only car, i don’t see why lose the luxury. Of course, if you’re referring to a hard core track only car…then i take back this comment…

In the E30, there was always a simple cap over the door panel. Pop that off and you can use an allen key to run the window up/down. Same for the sunroof.

Not sure how the E36 is set up though.

Why would you want to convert? Blown regulator/motors?

what is this “hard core track only” car you speak of?

I’m not referring to a specific car…i just don’t know why somebody would be concerned with making the switch from power to manual for the sake of saving weight in a car unless it’s a competitive track car where every bit of weight matters.

I’m assuming theblue is considering making the switch for the sake of saving weight though…didn’t really consider it may be because power motors are shot and he doesn’t feel like dropping the cash on new ones.

Usually power -> manual saves a max of 5lbs per window. Obviously varies a lot between cars. Dan (juicedz4) found that the manual window setup for his cavy was the same or heavier than power, from what I remember…

it’s less shit to break…?

I was only fucking with you because of your use of the term hard-core…as if it is a definition of a specific type of “track car”. I think the proper way to express your concern would be to say, “if you’re building a track-only race car, you probably don’t need electric windows”(or something along those lines).

When in Rome…

Can I borrow that nifty lil “vice grip beader” from ya? My upper ic pipe likes to go kaboom at around 15psi.

I really like the brushed look for the piping powdercoat, however I did expect some more radical colors.

Looks like you should be wrapping this up soonish
