Newman's 1986 BMW 326rb build thread.

I would convert mostly for reliability sake… I don’t want an old motor failing on me randomly… but since the allen key works as a backup I’m less worried now.

Plus, at least in my experience in trying to sell the regulators, you can buy an E30 window motor/regulator for ~$15 used. I couldn’t GIVE mine away.

lol at the guy on e30tech too. What a tool

bret are you still doing your bmw? and newman it looks great cant wait to see it finished

On my cavy the power setup (minus wiring, switches etc) was 1lb heavier than the manual setup per door.

A manual setup is definitely simpler and way less shit to break etc. If it was a track only car Id def keep them manual. EDIT: or if they broke swap to manual if its simple enough.

It’s not about saving weight, It’s about not having to run any wires to the door. Fuck that shit. Simple = better.

Yesterday I got the window cranks installed. There is a slight problem… They don’t lock. You can slide the window down with your hands… I gotta figure out a solution to that… Or I can bite the bullet and buy OEM manual ones. These will work for now though.

I also got all 4 side windows in the car and all the window trim on (except for the panels behind the rear 1/4 glass, because that still needs paint).

It’s looking more like a car every day.

I did a half assed job putting the blackout on the trim… I shouldn’t work on the car when I’m so beat, but I don’t think it will be that noticeable.

says the guy who put an rb26 into a e30, not to mention everything else you’ve “modified” on that car  haha

i know what you mean though, and at this point you probably just want to drive it!

I was more talking about theblue’s idea of converting to manual. I understand in your case, newman.

More shots of the outside. It’s even more yellow than it appears in photos. Very odd color indeed. 4/6 windows are in. As is BLACKED OUT TRIM

PHAT AZZ… (the apron has some black on it at a weird angle so it looks crooked, but it all gets covered by the rear valence) Also got the trunk latch and tails installed. Looks like a fox notch hahah.

A shot of the CHROME BILLET WINDOW CRANK$$$ installed (23 bucks from summit)

And FINALLY got a set of these. SOOOO much better than a crescent wrench with electrical tape on it.

looks hood

looking good brotha

Very haha ILI

sweet. get this thing done.

are there sti floor mats?

i have vinyl on my inside strippings at the top part of the door where the window closes on the inside

but mine ripped and shredded so whenever im rocking the “arm out the window and hand on the top part of the door, and thumb on the inside” type deal while driving, i get like paper cut things on my thumb :frowning:

make sure you do them good , you dont want paper cut things on your thumb lol

sweet
looks good bud. :tspry:

yep, sti ftw lol

I can’t believe you’re still not done with this.

Have you ever rebuilt a car from the ground up?

So yesterday I also got done:

EGT probe in manifold
Turbo repositioned to allow more valve cover clearance
Coolant pipes installed
Upper coolant surge tank fitting installed on radiator
Brake booster check valve installed
Rubber sheath installed on cold coolant line to turbo
