Newman's 1986 BMW 326rb build thread.

no way that fiberglass shit is ITCHY

you need to (well you dont NEED to but i think it will help) switch from exhaust evac to electric or mehanical pump evac. your exhaust will pull vacuum at idle but will quickly try to pressurize when full load. Just the research i have found, or run scavange pump as close to the exhaust tail pipe as possible to avoid backpressure.

Can’t pressurize the crankcase through the one way check valve he has right near the exhaust inlet.

Exhaust evac has been a pretty tried and true method

i understand that and i meant it would create a pressure instead of a vacuum when the motor is screaming. Its also tried and proved to make pressure on alotta vehicles too which is why is wouldnt do it. Ive personally blown exhaust exhaust bands apart from exhaust pressure. This “tried and trued method” works great open header or like i said earlier close to the exhaust tail pipe. Newman and i spoke and we both suggested a vacuum guage on the scavange tube to see exactly how effective this realy is.

Of course not, but under the conditions in which this exhaust exists corrosion and or oxidation is nearly negligable. This material is well within it’s intended use for it’s properties. I understand the metalurgy behind it and I understand what it is you are getting at, it just doesn’t apply to this particular situation.

As for oxidation the only place I have ever seen a stainless exhaust oxidize (after being driven through a NYS winter with considerable salt and water) is at the welds when mended with filler that does not carry the same properties as the base medal.

Car looks great in person.

Cool?..ugh er

I haven’t been on this forum in a couple years… but the build has come out awesome!

its amazing looking back at the first 2 or 3 pages in the thread then at the end. you’re doing this thing up right and the build is amazing.

I’m an oil man!

my last go around took a while to get pressure too, for whatever reason. sometimes it takes longer than others

Dude, the vacuum trick works fucking awesome…

YAY

what did you put on the oil pump parts for assembly?

The oil pump is a sealed unit:

Carnut pulled his apart and packed it with assembly lube, but I put mine on dry, which was a mistake.

i was gonna say, i would have at least squeezed it full of assembly slime. pumps need love when they’re dry on initial startup.

Now I know for next time when I put the 1600 dollar apexi one in…

Use that money for an LSx swap. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m gonna ask them how much for an RB26 billet block…

its not worth nothing!
