Newman's 1986 BMW 326rb build thread.

So the physical oil temperature changes the resistance value? The resistance value changes the output voltage? Your dash reads the output voltage to display a temperature?

I never really thought about how these sensors work…

Yeah.

There is actually a 100 ohm pull up resistor that i soldered into the circuit.

So the dash 2 reads the voltage AFTER the 100 ohm resistor, but BEFORE the sensor. As the sensor changes voltage the voltage between the resistor and the sensor changes. That voltage is run through an algorithm in the dash and output as a temperature reading.

Pretty simple. I just bought a 12v power supply though, which i will replace my 5v power supply with, so I can get a bit better resolution…

i def did not pay attention in circuits

My car runs again!

got the intake all back together, no coolant leaks. I pressure checked it to 20psi and saw nothing, so I feel pretty relieved about that. Tonight I’m going to loom up all the shit in the engine bay and, time permitting, will install the front end…

oh and look what arrived:

how much more do you have to do once the front end is on? Small finishing touches?

Basically… there isn’t much left… but i’m sure I’ll start REDOING things until I can actually get it on the road…

when are the gaskets coming in for the IM/plenum?

…awesome.

Cool, looking forward to checking out the finished product.

Got em on wednesday.

oh lol

IS THERE TIME FOR HEATERS? Im not talking about the kind used to calibrate sensors either.

sick, and ofcourse we get snow, so the car will be done before the roads are. haha

i was on here just wasting some time and i looked at this thread an saw that you fired it up! congrats man! alot of time and hard work. must have felt amazing to hear it run!

who? or does hot shots anodize also

if he was waiting on hot shots, that’d be the reason it took 3+ years, :tif: to hot shots.

search for threads started by me about anodizing…

cuz that stuff is boring as hell! i’d rather be doing statics!
