My bet guess is to accomodate for suspension movement and how it affects thet distance of the pinion from the transmission.
Because there is no slip yoke at the transmission…
Normally you have this: at the end of your driveshaft, I have a flange:
This just shoves in the transmission and provides the slip.
Some cars, like supras, use a rubber guibo, but it all does the same thing.
this car has independent rear suspension. On a solid axle car, the suspension would cause a difference though.
The rear diff doesn’t move except for chassis flexing or the motor could shift around a tiny bit in its mounts during high-torque periods. He is probably running solid mounts though so the only variable I see being involved is chassis flex.
Good point…definitely overlooked that in regards to this car.
You still never want to have a length constrained driveshaft. Even with a super stiff chassis, solid mounts, etc, there’s no reason to put added stress on the pinions.
BFH time
+1
Corvettes all have solid drive shafts, have you even seen the drive train of a corvette?
This one is CF
I just automatically assumed you were going with a solid one piece with a 1/4" rubber coupler at the rear end side. Would have probably saved you some weight in the shaft as well.
I don’t particularly think there is much more added stress in the pinions, though the bearings might see a little more loading.
Interesting either way.
if you painted the car more of a green color as in the painted fender flares pic. i think that would look awesome with the flares painted. but the way it is now, i would leave it as is. possibly paint the intercooler black though
I think you should leave the car exactly the way you wanted it. All these douches that think their color/paint opinions matter need to start their own projects.
They also have a structural tube the DS goes inside… which all but eliminates any sort of flex or need for slip. The rear 1/2 shafts have slip built into them though.
you should completely repaint the car on account of me not liking the color at all
Shit looks hot. Should look good in the sunlight… hard to miss that sushikraut pickle
dumb question lol but where are you gonna get it inspected? i would love for the guys at my shop to see this. when the time comes bring it to Walczaks Auto on transit and french kinda by zorbas lol my dad needs to see this beast!!
tell them to get on the internet?
seen that coming. but cmon im sure its a 1000 times better in person
Just spend all day with this thing… almost there!
