Newman's Snowboard/Wakeboard winch build...

This would be siq to do a roof to roof jump with… Is there possibility to get this winch going up to 40+ for some serious urban shred

40mph would require a 31 tooth sprocket (with a 9.5" drum) which I could PROBABLY fit. I was going to burn a bunch of different size sprockets… only thing is it will take a while to get up to speed…

Anyway, almost done with the design… just need to figure out how to sexy up that corner of the cover by the recoil… ideas?

quieter muffler, 4g’s is loud, for a stealth machine, maybe a light on it to point towards the ramp,

some quick thoughts, 40 mph, 200 lbs + friction, the lbs on the rope, hmmm, i would have to do some math, need any help?

  1. Not sure which corner you are trying to sexy up.

  2. Will you be heat treating (or something) the sprockets at all? re: wear with the chain.

  3. You need a hole in the cover for the wire to run through. Maybe add a roller on each edge? edit: only 20 bucks too.

  4. lol @ picture file names.

1: the rear of the main cover on the brake side.
2: not really needed. max speed of the sprockets I am making is 1400 rpm… they’ll be made from stainless so they’ll be pretty hard already.
3: There is already one of those on the drawing right on the front of the machine… The cable pulls in from the bottom of the drum.

Cable breaks at 920lbs of force… that will rip your arms out of the socket before it breaks…

oh right. i didnt even see that. i expected it to come out near the top; just like wake boarding its better to have it pull ‘up’ (ie wakeboard tower). I know the foot of height is marginal here but still something to consider.

and maybe a lexan viewing window for the brake side?

ok, now that i have more time,

the goal is to pull a 200 lbs person 500to 1000 away, at the same velocity

So, 40 mph is 58.6666667 fps, 8.5 sec of towing for 500 ft, 17 for 1000, but the spool is getting larger and heavier

should be cool, i hope i can meet up with you and try it.

I need to make provisions for staking it and some sort of pull handle, but other than that it’s done… I was going to put slot in the cover, but I think I’ll leave it as is so I have some good surface area to give it a cool paint scheme or put stickers on it or something… Hopefully I can get it off the laser before the end of next week. I can machine the few parts I need in the meantime…

Any suggestions, aesthetic or otherwise?

Is corrosion going to be something to be concerned about with water and snow? Sorry if I missed the part where you talked about what materials its being mad of.

ugh I wish I could get involved in something like this, I love machining thing but the mini projects I am doing in ‘shop class’ are so lame. Im always out of there in 35 mins. and the kids who run the FSAE club at school are kind of stuck-up it seems. But I am going to try my damnedest to get in there and run it eventually.

my bet is everything will be painted or powder coated.

It will most likely be powdercoated mild steel, but I make it from 304 if I’m feeling saucy.

looks good, maybe a hello kitty logo?

make sure to slot everything for adjustment, so when you dont have to worry about half links, and chain slack, or make a tensioner…

What kind of adjustments for speed will you have? I ask because 40 is way faster than normal wakeboarding.

Initial setup will have a top speed of 22mph.

That’s pretty much perfect right there.

what colors you planning on? I’ve got a ton in stock already.

This should be a blast man, very cool and well thought out design

Sent out to the laser… it’ll probably take about a week…

Added some Megaman flair and an inspirational message to the rider:

hah, i like how silly looking it is

Haha… nice final design.

I’m down for testing it’s pulling power if you want to see if it can pull a fat wakeboarder.
