So on my way back from lunch at Taco Bell I slammed it into 2nd gear heard a horrendous noise from the VLSD diff, sounded like the gears inside broke in half. I coasted off of Balltown Rd and it kinda moved under it’s own power but bucked really bad and sounded even worse. So I called a tow truck and my friends that were riding with me called this chick we work with to pick them up. I called my boss and told him what happened and that I won’t be able to make it back today and that I’ll just use a few hours of personal business :banana
The rear diff was a little whiny after I installed and it was getting a little worse but I didn’t think it would do this right away!
Got the car towed back to my place and pulled the diff out to see this:
Hmm yummy metal shavings! I didn’t get a pic but the magnetic drain plug was LOADED up with a shit-ton of metal lol.
So after all this shit, I pulled out my spare diff courtesy of w.Tungsten and swapped it in. It just happens to be a welded diff ;D Yeah it skips around turns and what not, but it’s hella fun to slide around in!
:crackup omfg. when you called me, i didnt think it was this bad.
S15 dif? :ohnoes
Wow. Did you buy that rear end from a junk yard?
no its called rb25 POWA!
:lol i knew this would happen after you tried to beat me in the tire roasting session the other night ;D
No I picked up different pieces and put it all together. The problems started from not having a matched gear set. The number of teeth on the gears matched but it wasn’t a matched set so it whined a little. I didn’t think this would happen though. I guess RB POWA might of helped it along…
Eh, I did switch from my reverse burn out to 1st gear pretty quick… ;D
I meant out of another 240 or a J30…
oh no!!! I’d say be careful with that welded since I don’t know who welded it… at least it came in handy!
It could’ve been lash settings? I don’t really know what they are but AE86 owners always make a big fuss about it. Apparently this is what will happen if they’re wrong.
that totally looks like a lash issue. Looks like the teeth were not only contacting but being pressure in the contact.
Yeah I’m pretty sure it was a lash issue also. I just thought I could get away with it for a while.
The welded diff seems to be holding up fairly well, it is definitely welded good.
welded diffs are mad fun. I just hope you have a good budget for tires
Don’t welded diffs make wheels hop through sharp turning?
hop, squeal,chirp, smoke
oh yeah mad fun, I really like the welded diff but parking is a bitch. I have a KAAZ 1.5 way but I have to install it still.
yo dat 240’z goes pretty well son not too bad
240SX dumbass…
And yes it pulls perttttyyyyy damn hard
no no i didnt mean 240 Z i mean 240’z like 240’s like bein stupid etc not 240 z tho no no i know that much
haha thanks, I kicked it a sidewayz quite a bit too, tires were still cold
