I’ve never seen this before but I’m surprised no aftermarket company has thought of it yet… Might be a liability issue though, lol.
Looks like one of the caliper re-manufacture companies (I don’t know which, someone just took this picture at their shop) is making spacers for the 300zx 26mm calipers and turning them into 30mm calipers. With available quantities of 30mm calipers dwindling, this might be a good idea IF done right. There are lots of 26mm calipers out there.
i have never seen it…although for my purposes on the conversions i have done the 26mm calipers are a better fit…looks like it could be promising though
stupid idea… quantities are not dwindling, you can go to most any jobber and pull rebuilds…
the only way the quanities could decline enough is if the cars disappear and demand contnues to go up, which isnt happening.
the number of cars that would use these calipers will continually decline and wreckers will continue to send all of their calipers to Cardone and the like to rebuild and resell.
the guys who do the spacer are guys like Newman who are just bored with a lathe or CNC machine at their disposal. IMHO there is no commercial viability for a product like that. And if there was i wouldnt want to have anything to do with someone who was in the market for it since they obviously don’t have the sense to call part-source, Canadian Tire or any other local jobber (pep boys, autosource or whatever they’re called in the US) to buy the right calipers.
26mm calipers suck anyways… the rotors are hard to find since they only came on one model of one year of the Z…
Then how do you explain a company making these spacers and putting them on re-manned calipers? Someone must have seen SOME demand for it.
I had a hell of a time finding re-manned 30mm calipers a few months ago and I’m not alone. Rock Auto only had 2 right side calipers and 1 left side. Every other re-man company I contacted though NAPA, Autozone, Advance, etc was out. They had plenty of 26mm.
I think we had this conversation before though and I’m not sure if Canada uses the same re-manufactures as the US does. That or it’s a regional issue.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t G35/350z Brembos a bolt on affair… they are on 240sx’s if you drill the spindle to accept the larger bolts, and 300zx calipers are a bolt on affair for them.
So why would you waste your time hunting down the 300zx stuff?
i believe u still need the relocation brackets for the brembos to accept larger rotors…i dont think the stock Z rotors fit with the brembos…but again i am not a Z guy
I have no idea if Brembo calipers can just bolt on, but even if they could the stock rotors on Zs are so tiny I wouldn’t want to pair them.
It used to be that you could go to Autozone and get a set of re-manned front 30mm 300zx calipers for about $100. I did it twice when I had my black Z and their were usually 20+ sets in the system. Not anymore though.
i think Buffalo is just an under serviced market perhaps?
i just did a quick search… these calipers are everywhere… but perhaps the distribution is changing?
Cardone is the best one that i am familiar with and i just ran my old part numbers and came up with them easily for well under what i used to pay for them remanned and loaded.
Could be. If it is the case then there are other areas in the same situation. I couldn’t even place an order locally since none were in the system. But even online (Rock Auto) only had a handfull.
I paid about that for my 2 calipers unloaded. $100 more than I used to pay
