I don’t own an exotic but… My 87 camaro never ran a front plate, 95 jeep rarely did, and I had it off my s-10 for a month.
In my ~75 times being pulled over a cop never asked me about my front plate. That said, he usually had enough tickets he could give me that a front plate was the least of his/my worries. I have however been hassled for the rear license plate cover on a few occasions.
it actually reads " higher end “/”exotic cars. i think a vette would qualify as a higher end car. not necessarily “exotic,” but higher end than most cars. relax dude.
The SRT4 was nabbed once for no front plate. Officer let me go after it was explained to him that my intercooler was a lot less efficient with the plate blocking the airflow. (or that the bracket was on order)…
My Rabbit doesn’t have a front plate and no holes drilled for it, I’ve been harassed for it , but no ticket.
I think a lot of it has to do with how the car looks, if you have a defined location, screw holes etc screaming “plate goes here” you’d get harassed more than a car that doesn’t have an obvious plate location. For my 5 series I got a “no-plate state” front trim panel and was never harassed for it.
It is the same reason my s2000 has a front plate -there are obvious bolt holes/plugs if the plate is not installed and I think that’s just “asking for it”
It will depend on the cop. I have been pulled over for it for my vette, my mustang, and my BMW. Cops that aren’t complete dicks generally won’t give you the ticket if you seem polite because its a ‘fix it’ ticket.
The first week I owned the Two I drove past a few cops with no front plate. I thought for sure I would get nailed but I didn’t. I was intending on putting it on eventually but I don’t see the point. I figure if I don’t give them a reason to pull me over then I am good.
Drove the Grand Am down to the shop with a “Fake” plate on the rear and no front plate Sunday. It still has my 08 inspection and registration on it
Several years ago some guys from NYSPEED told me how bad my front plate looked. I said that it was on because I didn’t want to get hassled. They told me 'Vettes get a free pass on the front plate. So I took it off, and have not been stopped for it once. Amazing, people on here do know what they are talking about.
The M Roadster doesn’t have a front plate for 3 years, never hassled
The 3-series didn’t have one for a year, and never pulled over for that
The s-10 didn’t for almost 2 years, and no problem
I didnt run one for a while, but I kept hearing Amherst cops would ticket me for that so I bought a plate holder that swings underneath at speed. So I can say I have one even if they didnt see it.
I look at it like this… and have been told my a few people (some who are cops as well). If you’re not doing anything else wrong, aren’t some punk kid with his music blaring, acting like a douche most cops are not going to care.
And… if you do get pulled over, they may (Have had this happen before to my brother when I was in the car) cut you a break and write you a ticket for that instead of something worse (in his case 15mph over the speed limit).
true story: an officer pulled me over in the evo and asked me why I didn’t have a front plate. I told it it was so that cops didn’t have anything to shoot laser at.
that was the only time I was ever bothered in the evo about it from 2003-2008.
