No front plate on higher end/exotic vehicles = free pass or no?

Just wondering if you guys with the Corvettes and Vipers and Porsches, and all the higher end exotic type vehicle have ever had trouble with no front plate? I’d think a cop would be more inclined to look the other way for these types of cars than a loud civic or camaro or something. Any truth?

Yes, there is truth to it.

If a lotus is considered an “exotic” i will say that there is some truth to it. I still get pulled over for it, but have yet to get a ticket.

I was at a small cruise night in the village of hamburg and noticed most of the hot rods & customs had no front plate. I dont think they bother the old guys, but if were a young punk im sure you would get hassled. The cops are notorious in the village of hamburg for pulling you over for pety stuff.

I haven’t been pulled over yet for it, warned once but that’s it. I didn’t have one on my camaro for three years and I don’t plan on putting one on the trans am. I do think that if the car is worth more more cops kinda look the other way

My wife’s 91 camaro has never had a plate on it since we bought it new. Never been pulled over

I’ve been let off in the Esprit for it every time…

Have only gotten 1 ticket in the MR2 for it, but it was thrown out in court when I brought in a receipt from NT Toyota for a lic. plate bracket.

I never had one on the Bird… and when I did it was underneath on the airdam… had a few cops bust my balls for it if I was pulled over for something else; otherwise I’ve never had issues.

I had no front plate on my GTO my entire time I had it. It came from NC and had no bracket and I wasn’t about to drill it. Never pulled over for it, never questioned, One time a cop told me to roll down my window and I figured I was gonna get hassled, but he just wanted to know if it was an LS1 or LS2  I did get a parking style ticket for it from a Buffalo parking fggt, but he put it down as a Chevy :bloated: so it got dismissed automatically.
I think this is one case where domestics def have it easier, the other being harleys.

My corvette has never had a front plate on it, and I have been hassled about it a couple times.

Mind you I lived in Hamburg and had to drive through the village daily. Once the cops realized I was a 20 y/o with a vette and not an old man they would pull me over every now and then.

5 years now with no front plate on the BMW… 1 ticket. Ticketed this weekend for a cover over my rear plate.

6yrs. with no issues at all with the 83 and 3yrs for the 87 and once I got pulled over and the cop asked me why he did and I said no front plate, he said nope, commented on my car and told me to have a nice day. Another time I was driving down a side street where 2 cops were in front of this house and one yelled at me wheres my front plate, I just shrugged and continued on.

 @ “high end exotic… 'vette”

I have nothing further to add other than I live in a no front plate state.

I’m sure your age / demeanor has at least just as much to do with it.

i think i had my front plate off of my civic for about 1 day before i got a ticket. maybe i just have no luck with this stuff.lol

I never have a front plate on (aside from my DD’s) and I just got my first “no front plate” ticket the other day… I was in a Miata :frowning:

Better knock on something wood!
Funny thing in all this is the other night on the way home from work, a 1969 mustang fastback with no plates or reg passed 2 amherst cops on sheridan and did not get pulled over.

We have no front plate on my fiance’s 1950 Dodge truck, but we get around it by “operating under year of manufacture.” We have a vintage 1950 NY plate on the truck and there were no front plates in 1950 (but there were in 1948 and 1952…go figure). We’ve never gotten stopped or hassled about it.

Mauh its higher and more exotic then 95% of vehicles driven in Buffalo.

My DDs usually have front plates, my jeep didn’t because of the deer slayer I had on it and was pulled over twice for it in the first week but no tickets. I just told the cops it got ripped off when I was off roading. (which it did all the time until I bolted it to the slayer.) Showed them the muddy crumpled plate on the floor and they were all ok with it.

No front plate for a couple weeks on my miata - one cop asked me where it was but didn’t really care, told me “nice car” - I tossed my license plate in the window after that and nobody’s said anything, but again its only been a couple weeks. If it’s a car that doesn’t have a bracket I don’t think they care much but if there is an empty bracket there I would expect a ticket.

I would not call them exotic as in my neighborhood there is 7 c5/c6 including one zr1. Nice sports cars though.
