so what do i need to do? they gave me a deposit today. i wrote up a receipt for the deposit and said “balance will be paid later” etc.
she is coming to look at it with her husband tomorrow to finalize it. whats next? lets see if i have this right.
i write up a bill of sale, she gives me money, i sign the title over to her, she goes to the dmv and registers it, comes back with the plates and drives it away?
what do i do with my registration and plates? anything i am missing?
hopefully you have a date on the receipt lol.
yeh, i put mondays date. so could i feasibly do this on a lunch hour?
You need to collect your money, and give them a signed receipt and clear, signed title. If there is a lien on the title (bottom 4 boxes), you will have to have an official lien release from the bank or financing company with the title for them to take ownership. If you’re using the purchase money to pay off the car it gets trickier.
The safe way to do it is to get paid in cash, or certified check, and to take your plates off at the time of sale. If it’s more than a few thousand, and it’s not a cash payment I’d look at the buyers driver’s license and make sure the name matches.
If you want to be trusting, you can take personal check, but I’ve had family get ripped off this way in the past. The last truck I sold, the buyer turned in the plates for me when they took it in for registration (1 week after sale). It saved me a trip to the DMV, but I sort of had to trust that they would do it, and I had to wait to cancel insurance.

It is pretty straight forward. Take cash, fill out reciept for “SOLD - AS IS CONDITION,” sign title, take off your plates and registration sticker.
Tell her she has 30 minutes to move her cube.
