Noob to s-chassis!

Okay guys, I’m debating on saving for my next car: either s-chassis 240sx/180sx (s13,s14) OR 6th gen (96-00) civic Hatchback.

The only question I have since I’ve seen so many s-chassis rusted out the bum, : how would i prevent that, how hard is it to fix, how much would it be?

Finding a civic is easy and cheap, but I’ve always had a love for the S-chassis, but I need to drive it all-seasons, so how would I get around the giant rust bug?

i come from a heavy honda background. go to the S13 trust me… find one with a decend body, fix whatever rust it has, get it rust proofed and enjoy your car year around. I just bought a S13 and sold my civic AGAIN for a S-chassis!!

Traded my 1993 Civic w/ GSR for a S14…(i got $2000 on top)
Traded my S14 for a RHD Silvia
Sold my 1996 Civic and bought a S13.

Get your car and you wont regret it man… Good luck!

I’m not gonna lie, I’m expecting biased answers, hondas are fun toys, but s-chassis, I think I’ll enjoy RWD handling much better, and I know its kind of stupid to compare FWD and RWD handling experience from video games LOL but I drive a Jetta and my parents’ golf and it compares very closely to FWD Video game handling, I love AWD and RWD handling most though. so much more precise. How much would it usually be to get rid of rust?surface and structure? aren’t there people on here that can do it for fairly cheaper than normal shops? I’ve read a few threads.

RWD is more fun! 100% better! i am telling you from my experiences with all the cars i have owned in the past… more than 2 hands can count!

now find me a structurally and mechanically sound running 240 for under 2k! xD haha

in that case stick to your hondas

dont drive 240’s in snow, even if rust proofed. just buy a beater

i found my 240 for less than 1000, but i had to put a little work into her and now i love it :D.

btw i’m still doing little things to her.

I’d totally put work into it, but I want to be able to still drive it home/around to get work done that I can’t do/get parts.

I bought a clean 240 for 3k has very little to no rust. You just have to look harder, also, your 2k budget doesnt help

GL

it really is hard to find a mint one for 2k, for 3k it shouldn’t be that hard. Might take some time come this spring to find it, but you will find it.

Theres no estimating rust untill you see the car yourself but if your going to cheap out good luck…

everything is going to be ok just get a clean(as clean as you can) s-chassis

Save more money and try to find a clean one… Finding a clean one would be cheaper then finding a rusted one and trying to make it clean

ive owned a civic before, my backround isnt as heavy as “nitescream”\s but trust me the minute you sit in an s-chassis you never want to look back at the fail wheel drive civic.

i paid 300$ for my old mx6 and got my 93 240sx trade up trade for the mx6…little rust on it but other but nothing that cant be fixed…just look around…theres some here in london that are under 2k but i dunno what type of condition their in…heres the link …

your a douche, stick to your civic. Go back to JDMR.

you’re a e-stalker. so what if i’m on jdmr.
just cause i’m too poor to afford a s-chassis right now?
i don’t have a civic LOL.
you sir are a dick:cool:

I think the others may be a little confused, you’re not looking for a mint car, you’re looking for a good one, correct? You should be able to get one for 2K just fine. Focus on finding one with as little rust on the frame and rockers as possible, and the rest should be all cheap fixes. It will have rust, but you can pay someone to fix it, there’s people on this forum that do that, not sure who, but nitescream may actually be one of them.

well like i said mechnically and structurally sound 240, cause i know about the rocker and rail rust. I can deal with surface rust.
