I’m pretty damn far to the right, but I can’t really say I agree with the email. But it does bring up one good point.

People who the liberals like to call “uneducated rednecks” often have the moral values that lead to them helping their neighbors in a natural disaster. I was on the Quebec border of NY during the ice storm of 98 and I saw this first hand working as a volunteer. Lots of small towns up there with populations < 500 like my home town of Fort Covington. Not as bad as the flood of New Orleans, but take away power/water/food/heat for such a large area, and have the outside temp be around 25 and you’re looking at a pretty desperate situation just the same. Not the power outages you’re all used to here in WNY, but the kind that last weeks, even months for people who were way out in the sticks.

The “entitled poor liberals” on the other hand tend to feel the world is owed to them, so when a natural disaster like Katrina strikes and the authoritative forces that keep them in line are gone, they resort to an “everyone for themselves” style of anarchy. The stories of rapes in the convention center and armed gangs wandering the streets were not made up by Fox News just to grab headlines. Go read the blogs of the police, fire and medical first responders that were there to see an un-pc but truthful view of what happened.

Just because you come from an area that gets now, and you know how to handle snow, does not mean that the rest of the nation is able to cope. 44" may not seem like much, but if there is no equiptment or knowledge on how to clean up after a storm, you are fucked. royally.

I guarantee that there were heavy snow warnings, advising motorists to stay off the road, they didn’t heed the warnings. They got stuck in snow banks. They didn’t die because it was just a snow storm.

There were hurricane advisory warnings. People didn’t heed them. They died.

Why? because a hurricane/flood is scores worse than a snowstorm. It has nothing to do with how lazy people are.
