i just bought a 240sx with a conversion already it in. the sr20det redtop. well after i drive it for about 30 minutes, then shut it off, and try to start it up again, it wont start. but after it like sits for about an hour or two it starts very easy. the guy said it has to do with an orange cable not getting the right amount of voltage or something. but i am able to get it started if i give it a lot of gas. and when i try to start im pretty sure its cranking over just fine, its just not starting.
sounds like a problem with ure fuel system, my buddies porsche has the same problem, its after the car gets warm right? see if u have full fuel pressure at the rail wen it wont start on u, then check ure spark
I know this might be stupid advice but how are your battery clamps. I remember when I had my s14, id start the car, drive around, and the bumps on the road shot the clamps off and then it wouldnt start, I checked everything under the hood then bam I see this clamp dangling over the battery and smack my forehead. Also make sure the battery actually has juice. But ya it might be the simplest answer, who knows.
I had the same battery clamp problem on my Integra. Drove me insane.
no its not the battery clamps cause when the engine is cold, it starts up in like half a secon,. yeah its when its warm that it wont start. and im dumb so can u tell me how to check the fuel pressure.
like is there any other way than a fuel pressure regulator
There is a “Schrader valve” on your fuel rail. It looks exactly like a valve stem in a tire. It may or may not be capped off depending on whether the guy before you felt like putting it back. Anyways, hook a fuel gauge up to this valve and note the reading according to your service manual. If it’s too high or low, I would suspect your fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail. BUT before you replace your fuel pressure regulator (if it’s bad) then check your fuel filter and fuel pump before hand because those can cause low fuel pressure. Too high of pressure will be because of a bad fuel pressure regulator.
Does your car misfire at speeds of any kind or at idle?
If u cant find a fuel pressure guage(i think u can rent or borrow them at crappy tire or partsource) if it is a schrader valve on the fuel rail, u ca just push the pin in the cetre of it in and fuel will spray out if theres pressure. its not a complete test, but ittl let u kno if u have fuel pressure.
Also check ure fuel pump relay too. Ihad a prblem that wen the car sat in the sun the relay would quit and i wouldnt get fuel till i could cool off the inside of the car.
the car runs perfectly when idle and when the throttle is on. when i put the key in i hear the fuel pump working but i think there could be a problem with it not pumping enough fuel so ill stop by crappy tire and pick up a fuel pressure guage. the fuel pump is also stock and wasnt change after the swap, could that be a problem?
There is a “Schraeder valve” on your fuel rail.[/quote]
Not on any 240SX. On a 240SX you need an inline fp gauge for the hoses. C’mon, Cody I thought you owned a 240SX?
i got the sr20det in it, so wouldnt it be different?
no. 43 psi at idle no vacuum hooked up.
