NY 198 now 30mph. Cover the 33? Skyway a park?

i had a real road rage incident when a guy passed me / blew the stop sign after I came to a complete stop at a stop sign on linden, then proceeded to go 50 down linden blowing multiple stop signs.

it might have ended at a red light with me punching the glass on his window and screaming at him while repeatedly trying to open his door. what would I have done? I don’t know. he was old.

I though about it afterwards and I probably overreacted. at the same time, he probably wont drive down that street like that again.

For sure on the ones that connect like that.

I had the pleasure of driving the 198 two days ago, holy slow. The area where it dips down before Medaille is retarded at 30 mph.

I am consistently blown away by how many people don’t even attempt to stop at our intersection. I throw out a thumbs down to them and a disapproving look every now and then.

Every now and then there is a cop sitting on the street waiting for people to run it - they don’t have to wait long. Probably heard close to 10 in an hour once.

@Minglor knows about this cop lolol

it is genuinely one of my few gripes with the area. people need to slow down and stop at stop signs. ive had people honk at me anf tailgate me when im doing 35. I live next door to 5 kids!! and next door to them, and across the street! ive almost been ran over riding a bike too.

I wish they would make linden one way. with parking on both sides. now that would be nice

its essentially a one way street once the snow hits.

They do this down my street off in North Buffalo between optional stop signs. I laugh now because the sewers under the street have settled and caused dips in the road so at least a few times a week at night you hear the roar of a shitty lowered <insert late 90s import here> and all of a sudden SCRAPE noise.

careful…

Oh no. This is 100% accurate. I have been sitting outside and it is continually late 90s Civics and CRXs. The ones with the extreme low or cut springs hit it hard.

So will someone explain the strange stripe areas on the 198 now? Are they making bike lanes on the sides of the highway?

I’ve already blown through one of the new stop signs by accident.

you got it. Slow the whole thing down to 30mph box of a tragic accident. Now let’s throw a bike lane on the road and get people right next to the cars. No way this road will ever be what it use to.

The lines from Delaware headed to the 190 are just odd though. Even the exits for cars are not even a standard size in places. They’re tight then get wider up on the ramps.

No, If you look closely what they did is narrow both lanes and move the left lane closer to the median to encourage people to drive slower. The striped area is dead space from the old small shoulders and wider lanes as well as some space from old merges near the entrances.

Bike lanes may be part of the eventual redesign though.

when i first saw it (thinner lanes, dead space before/after ramps/stop signs) i was confused as fuck. so was everyone i saw trying to use them and the 2 near accidents in a row. this is a fucking stupid idea.

Those stop signs look a lot like yield signs.

Bump.

They want to cover the 33. And do this to the 198:

I cant disagree with this idea more…
If they really want to do something impactful replicate what boston did with the big dig and reclaim the areas. Weather becomes a non issue on one of the areas busiest roads.
Pretty sure my wife will make us move downtown if they drop the 33 to 35 lol

Burying the 33 is one of those almost zero downside/massive upside plans that we’ll just never find the money to do. I remember seeing the cost estimates a while back and it was appalling, even for the below grade sections that would just need to be capped over.
