NY should ban stupid parents…
You can’t legislate the dumb out of people…
Whatever, I’m numb to this kind of stuff nowadays. Buy a regular lighter if you need one that bad…
this
I’m 50/50 on this one… I respects the firefighters who wanted this, but at the same time think it’s a little insane.
I felt that way too, but then I asked myself to give one good reason of why they are needed…none came available.
this is stupid. way to go new york, put more restrictions on the people when there are actual real issues that need to be addressed instead.
Nothing against you BOBBYG…just sad how this situation came about. Will a regular lighter stop a kid from setting fire to the house? Rhetorical.
I know those “toy” guns look drastically different that the real ones (/sarcasm).

I’m positive none of those had Dora the Explorer or Transformer Stickers. You know as sure as shit if your parents sidearm had G.I.JOE engraved on it you would be running around leaping over couch cushions trying to pop Cobra Commander in the ass!!!
The point is if parents are too dumb to educate and discipline their kids they can potentially hurt themselves and possibly others. This is another SAD example of “we can’t have nice things” because people suck.
PLUS, TAKING AWAY ONE STYLE OF A “WEAPON” WON’T SOLVE THE PROBLEM.
“Weapon” being the thingy that makes fire, of course.
Anyone ever see a kid running aroud with a stick trying to clobber the shit out of something? When a parent takes it away but doesn’t discipline them…they grab the next closest thing and start clobbering again. It’s funny to see but sad to watch this innocent person not being taught what is “right” and “wrong” for that situation.
Maybe parents should keep lighters away from kids?
How many kids burned down houses playing with matches and they didn’t even have a fun look
LZ for PreZ…
Not disagreeing with you guys at all and I totally think you are right about holding parents accountable, I just don’t care about this. I don’t think it is important enough for me to care about it. If parents watched their children and took blame for their actions, our “nanny state” wouldn’t even be wasting our tax dollars and discussing this nonsense.
So find another thread? lol
I weep for our future, and those I will have to live with.
Seriously, is it really that big of a deal that they banned novelty lighters? It’s not like they banned all lighters, in fact it’s basically just lighters that look like similar to kids toys.
I’m sorry though, I’ll leave you guys to argue about something that will probably have zero impact on you’re lives.
I thought it was an interesting story?
Instead of actually helping people or making the world a better place wasting state government time/money on things like this.
It’s not the fact that they banned novelty lighters or that we can’t have 8 bullets. It’s the fact that everything we do is becoming regulated. How far is this going to go. It’s not that far fetched that sooner or later we won’t be able to have fruit loops for breakfast we will only be able to have plain oatmeal because that’s what’s best for us. Think about the big picture, it’s not just about a novelty lighter…
Our government is overreaching as always. It needs to be scaled back so drastically on both a state and federal level that I am starting to think nothing is going to stop us from becoming a socialist country. REGISTER AND VOTE LIBERTARIAN IF YOU FEEL THAT YOU CAN NOT DECIDE BETWEEN THE TWO PUPPETS ON THE STAGE.
People don’t light things on fire with Fruit Loops. While I see your point, I think it is a bad example. Also, it’s not like you will be arrested for possessing one or even ticketed. This is just saying stores can’t sell them.
If you guys saw the amount of fire claims I see on a monthly basis, you would understand why I see no problem with this.
T-minus 14 months till I leave NY!
