Progressive insurance is installing blackboxes in their customers cars to “give them a discount for safe driving”. Soon we will all have these because they are so sweet!

So I got some info.
There is no limit on how many miles you have to drive but he did say an average of 3 times a week would be good.
The money is of course taxable, its up to you to claim it.
I wonder what they would do/say when they get the data back and see me “drifting” in the snow…hmmmmmmm
This.
Mount it to my miata. Hahahah
humm multiple 0-135mph runs…nice.
I break to many laws on a daily commute to make it worth the 500 a year. Along with my check I would get a stack of tickets. lol
I doubt they can ticket you for breaking the law like speeding, going through stopsigns/lights etc…
Unless that’s their plan all along… Here, we’ll give you $500 but also ticket you for EVERY violation. That’s a good way to make money, without having to have cops pull you over.
Genius NYS… Brilliant…
But anyway, I’d just leave it mounted in a car that is able to drive there and back… then let it sit for a year. I imagine the cameras are mounted with a type of adhesive or something similar to a GPS. If it’s done by adhesive, hopefully it’s not the same company that did the Reg/inspection stickers last year!
What happens if the cameras get stolen out of your car? Are you responsible? Having a camera displayed front and center in a car is a pretty good target for getting stolen. If people break in to cars for the sole reason that they see a GPS mount in the window (but no GPS), I’m sure they’ll more than gladly break in a car when they can actually see something of value in plain sight. Unless the video is stored somewhere else in the car… and then they can track down who did the break in
I wouldn’t be surprised at all.
Not for $500/yr.

Will they judge me for trying to rap along with my hip-hop music and either being too slow or missing some words? What about singing piano man?
I should sign up for this and register it to my DirecTV van!!! I will finally get paid to drive!
I am still hung up on the legal situation. I am WOT from every light if there is nobody in front of me, and I speed everywhere, and now that the snow is coming the van will see a LOT of WOT 51mph 1st gear runs for extended periods of time. It is a drift machine.

I was thinking about going with progressive and was reading about that and though that my average rate of acceleration might be higher than your average person. Not because I drive my touareg like a ass hole but because it has a lot of power. I didn’t think I would be in for a discount at all. Now that I have my work van back I probably put 50 miles a week on it though so that would probably look really good.
I just wonder if they’re actually going to watch ALL of the footage from two years of driving, or if they’re only going to review data before an accident or like event (if one happens).
This.
This brings up another question I’ve been pondering. Would it be out of the realm of possibility for EZ Pass tagholders to start receiving speeding tickets? Based on where you get on and off the system, it’s not hard to tell how much time it takes to get from one to the other based on the speed limit posted.
They did this a while back…lots of people got pissed and they stopped.
I know people talked about that a lot I didn’t know they ever actually did it at any point.
That sounds way too questionable to be worthwhile. OBDII only would be fine, but it sounds like they are introducing the possibility to molest the vehicle installing this crap, or otherwise screw you.
I wonder if they have GPS on the thing, that way they can determine burnout miles without reviewing all of the video.
I know last year on my way to detroit for the auto show, im pretty sure OH was doing it on the turnpike, when you got to your exit with the ticket they had the current time, and what time you should have arrived…we didnt get a ticket but i was def worried!
and id do it…and just fuck with the equipment. or purposly do stupid stuff in private lots (run over stuff/things…) i mean you could hit a dear and destroy the camera on the front plate…but still get paid right?
