well i bought a car that was salvage from PA and brought it over here , fixed it. regristered it. a few weeks later, a letter came in about the car need to be inspected.
i got some knowledge about this, but not all of it. it would cost me 150 bones and they would inspected it like a usual inspection and run the VIN.(for stolen parts, etc.)
Im trying to prepare for this and want to know what to exspect and do.
has anyone done this before? my tranny grinds and the clutch pedal isnt soo great. wil it pass?
Was the car salvaged in PA? or was it in a wreck and u bought it clean titled and repaired it?
Because if it already had a salvage PA title you would have been stopped at the DMV immediately from registering the vehicle and told to fill out a bunch of paperwork in regards to applying for the NYS Salvage/Rebuilt title and then waited 8 mos. til they had an open day. In any event…
The salvage inspection is for stolen parts/matching vins/etched vins. It also checks vehicle safety…like air bags and other manufacturer/govt. mandated safety features…It is in no way a normal inspection where they flash your lights and check your brakes and tires. In fact u have to have that “normal” annual inspection done before you go through the salvage inspection.
If you have any questions PM me or whatever…I have been through the entire process start to finish and I would never do it again.
Its not that bad. My old man sends 2-3 cars a year threw it. Usually takes him around a month to get an appointment although there are times it does take several months to get in there… My DD is a salvage title.
I wasnt calling BS, I know it can take a long ass time to get in.
yea the car was salvage in PA. brought it over and fixed. it. the airbag has been replace but the srs light still on. is there a fix? the car pass the normal inspection already.
the motor was swap with a lower milage one but idonno if it stolen. i needa car fax it or somthing. can anynone help
like i say if it was salvaged in PA u should have never been able to register it in NY in the first place.
Not without the inspection being done first
I can run a carfax for you if you want. PM me the VIN. I also don’t think you can pass an inspection normally with the SRS light on.
some states you can buy a totaled car or truck and just go right to the DMV here and register it
Jersey is though …
Agreed.
Little know fact - I once owned a focus.
that inspection is a ball buster
They wanted reciepts for proof of work completed and had to be back in “new” condition
PITA
Yeah I failed it the first time through
yea i pass the nys inspection legally (SRS isnt part of inspection. i go to school and took inspection class. also did my own inspection)and yes they did let me regrister it for like a mounth or two.
ill get you that vin johns
thanks johns. i was woundering . dose anyone know how to tell if the engine is stolen?
under the engine code it reads 4800945.can they tell because its pre-96 (94 civic ex)
up again…
anyone know the address of the place where they inspect the car? i want to ask them a few questions.
when u get a Title(salvage) inspection In NYS they have your car for usually a full day, look it over run most if not all the parts so see if stolen
-If something does happen to come up stolen, guess what they keep your car
And for every part you have on your car that you used to fix it you HAVE to have a recpit for it. If u don’t you pay $25 per part. I’ve gone threw the inspection a few times, and my dad has built totals for 20 years— no real probs ever… hope this helps some way
