NYS Inspection?

Would a OBD2b, 2000 year car pass NY state inspection, with a 96-98 OBD2a ECU in it? Assuming theres no CELs or anything, will the computers communicate with it? I know it wont work with OBD1 ECU’s in a OBD2 car. I just dont know if the computers are really OBD2 specific.

I don’t think it would it should still communicate. They use the same harness

As long as it functions, doesn’t trip a CEL, and activates at least all but two of the readiness monitors it will pass.

96-2000 can fail two readiness monitors at time of inspection and still pass.
2001+ can only fail one readiness monitor and still pass.

its not a failing of the readiness monitors if any fail its a fail of inspection ya can have 2 monitors not ready on cars up to 00 and 1 on 01 up

yeah, that what i meant to say. instead of “fail” should have been not active/not set.

fuck you and your technicallities ,cant i have one owned on you…lololol fucker

You did own me on that I admit it

ok ,cool lolol

i just did this on my 2000 si. Im almost positive you need to run the obd2b ecu. My car runs exclusively on a obd2a type r ecu but for inspection i need to switch it to obd2b stock si ecu. Theres some minor shit you need to do, pm me with your specifics if you want any advice. It will absolutely 100% fail if your obd2a ecu is JDM. JDM ecus dont look for almost any of the emissions shit and dont communicate with the diagnostic ports.

PMd

Obd 1 ftw.

Or you go to the Bronx and pay $100.
