NYS Inspection

Who knows (for sure) the details about the one year exception for nys inspection? Who can help me out with this?

I’m not so sure that there is a one year exception of any sort as far as passenger vehicles are concerned.

A search on the DMV’s website would seem to confirm this.

What exactly did you hear about this?

No one year exemption for OBDII test areas. In smog areas like NYMA when you buy a new car I believe you get a 1 year exemption from the tailpipe sniffer.

from what i have read, you must still pass the safety inspection no matter what. if you only fail the obd2 part, and spend $400 or $450 in repairs, but the obd2 still fails, you qualify for the waiver.

im still looking for a loophole i can get by with. does anyone know if nys does the limited mileage (<3000mi) emissions exemption?

No they don’t

Make your own receipt in Photoshop and hand it in to those thieves.

You can’t do that now with the OBD2 test. The inspection computer is tapped directly into the DMV database with records of your vehicle and VIN. When you pass the OBD2 test, it goes on record directly. If you fail, after a certain period of time goes by without a pass, the DMV system will automatically suspend your registration for lack of inspection.

I have put more than $400 in repairs into it (and I have the reciepts) but since I did the work myself, why should I get screwed?

I am a licensed NYS Inspector. It’s $500 in emissions repairs for the one year exemption from emissions. You can’t get it the following year. You can do repairs yourself. The computer will ask the inspector if any emissions repairs have been made before inspection. You click on yes. It will then ask if the repairs were made by the customer or the shop. Then it will ask cost of repairs. If it is $500 or over, even in different installment over the course of a couple tries, it will not scan the ECU for emissions failures and will issue a sticker.

What he probably meant was to photoshop the receipts for the $500 in repair bills…

Finally someone who knows what they are talking about

That was the reply I was looking for - thanks!

thanks for the info. do you need to present receipts for the replacement parts if you do the work yourself?

But anyways, what the hell isn’t working on your ride anyways?

yes otherwise how r inspectors to know if u did or didnt purchase the shit

JDM Motors don’t have a crankspeed fluctuation sensor on them, but USDM ECU’s look for it. I have to replace the oil pump (JDM oil pumps don’t have the mount for the sensor on them), and it is just turning into a real nightmare. I have done so much work to the car already, I just want to drive it for a little bit and not have to worry about it. All of the emission stuff works fine. I have a cat and two o2 sensors. Just that damn light for that sensor.

Besides, I have a GSR head to go on it, so I would like to do that while I have the timing belt off and such, so I don’t have to do the same stuff twice. But I still have to buy a couple parts for the vtec conversion…

why that store…monroe muffler…told me that they’re not using muffler sniffer at all? hm…
