MY JOB SUCKS!!! I want to go dammit:tantrum:
i was gonna come take pics for people but eh on the rain
yeah, IDK I was thinkin a bout it, But dan doesnt know if hes goin, and I dont really wanna drive up there, plus I should really be working on tearing down my car, so 27th I’ll take the pics I promise lol
just got back, left a bit early…
driving in the wet is just as fun or possibly more fun than in the dry.
ALOT of sliding… very difficult out there… but tons of fun. Dan from U2n offed my car and broke my CF lip and the fender cap on the bumper.
i ran a 1.36 which after a few cars was the best time out there (moffit, eesti, cassis, minglor and some other dudes) until Mike broke off a 1.31 in his M5… wtf that is insane.
it was not raining as hard when he got out there, but the track was still wet as hell.
they were running some more as i left and i am sure some people will report back with some times in the 1.20’s.
Nice, damn I really wanted to see mike run the M5, hope he shows on the 27th lol
My tires suck in the rain… I think i was like a 1:47 lol
Not bad for the first time in the wet and no practice lol
IT’S GONNA RAIN.
I didn’t bother logging. Because of the rain, I didn’t think anyone would be paying attention to times(silly me). I guess there are a few drift boxes now, so there will always be someone to compare to.
I had my wife in the car when Josh decided to start timing, and she gets nauseous easily, so I definitely wasn’t pushing it. Oh yea, and the sky decided to open up and completely flood the track LOL
I had a ton of fun in the rain. I really need to learn how to be smooth…
This was so much fun! I have such little expererience in the rain, that this allowed me to work on getting used to sliding the car around. My motto for the day was… if I haven’t almost spun it in this corner, I’m not pushing hard enough here yet.
I put 90 miles down at the track alone… not too shabby for the day. I’ll be pulling data later. Mike drove the Box, and I have his data too, so it’ll be cool to compare.
And FYI - I SUCK at rain driving! Ah well, something to improve!
Edit - Minglor, I take it you made it home alright?
Sorry to hear about the lip…stuff happens! I am suprised that the rain seems to knock about 20 seconds off a lap time, I guess that suggests Mikes M5 with be really fast in the dry? 1:12’s…1:11’s?
Mike is just Fast no matter what. You could give him a Chevy aveo and he will put down a time. But yes the M5 will hit great numbers dry, he was driving the rain really well though.
yeah i want to drive with you next time mike, i gotta see your lines in the M5
Thanks guys. Honestly the M5 will NOT be particularly fast in the dry. It literally has NO brakes which in the dry will absolutely kill me (literally, and figuratively), and it understeers like a pig. I think in the wet it would’ve bottomed out around a 1:28.5~ or there abouts, or maybe a bit closer to 1:30.0. As for a line, in the wet, I had about 8 lines I would use depending on the severity of the water in a corner, just trying to find grip. The only corners I used a consistent line through were turn 5 with a SUPER late turn in, Len’s which had a very grippy outside line that you could see/feel, and T2, which again, I was super late on so I could get into the power quicker. Thanks to dmoffitt, cassie, ilc, and minglor for letting me drive their cars.
God, I was SOAKED, lol.
I need some rain gear for my camera. There was some awesome stuff going on out there in the pouring rain!
Only one more chance to get out there this summer - Click HERE - :fyi:
Absolutely… during one session I was finding more grip on the outer half of grande curve, so I was opting for a single apex for a while. Water was just pooling up on the inside.
I never double apex’ed Grand Curve in the wet unless I was sliding on purpose. There were 3 options coming out though at the apex, inside the puddle, straddling the puddle, or outside the puddle. Outside was slow and meh/bad if you got into a slide, straddling was safe, and inside was fast and dangerous. Atleast in my opinion. Get inside wrong and you were touching it, understeering out on a hydroplane and then snapping into oversteer.
It took me one instance of hydroplaning by staying inside to make me not want to do that again. I did NOT like feeling that at 80mph+
Dave was awesome at handling it on the session I went out with him - it was like it wasn’t affecting him at all. That’s just still outside my comfort level.
Yep.
My charge light is no longer on…
Something got wet and angry.
I think it got mad when it bunted a cone…
I had a great time and if I ever go to dunneville in the rain it will not be on half bald tires.
Mike, Thanks for scaring the life out of me in the M. <3
Dave, Thank you for your help and caring if I made it back into the us.
