NYSpeed Should Be...

Understandable but that is not what we have now and that needs to change.

interest in cars is the foundation for why we are all here. but i have met alot a cool people and made some good frinds in the process. sure make it an place for getting info on cars and such, but if all that is talked about is auto-related it can get kinda boring. im not gonna get into the whole beck thing-it aint worth it.

You would prefer people contribute to both?

i typically feel the same way. not about everything, but i’m down with at least 80% of what the mods say and do on here. but i think that pretty much anyone who either caught the ban or is really close to it DESERVES it - and this goes for even the ones i know pretty well.

it’s not that hard to exist on here. post relevant stuff. mod tells you to quit doing something, well - if you like being here, stop whatever you’re doing. this is Not hard :gotme:

More automotive related stuff, less off topic, but i’m sure that will change come spring. It’s called “NYSpeed” for a reason though. I kind of wish the off topic threads didn’t show up when you clicked on New Posts, but oh well not a big deal. Other than that, moderation is fine but I would like to see some race drama not get locked. It makes for more exciting races come spring.

Option #2. I like the way bimmerforums runs things. In the technical forums, do not go off topic, or your shit will be locked/deleted/moved. In OT, almost anything goes.

A car forum should always have car related topics…this is was the main idea of the forum is…but just like every other forum out there…there should always be some sort of OT discussion with good moderation…cause w/o that…everybody knows shit would get wayyyyyy outta hand

:word:

More car related talk less OT talk

same way with Maxima.org…they tolerate a little bit of off-topic ness but not very much…there a very few theads where things go off-topic or drama is started…they also dont tolerate things that had been posted a milliion times because no one searches or reads the stickies…so overall i think our mods do a good job…i dont mind the off-topic it just gets out of hand sometimes

I think this site is pretty cool. I like comming on here and reading through tech threads as well as reading and posting in OT. I think it would be a little better with a little less moderation though. Sure, there needs to be SOME moderation, but I think that if you just use the “let nature run its course” theory with a lot of threads in this forum things would be just fine. It seems that when the mods lock threads, and especially ban people, they create more drama in the process than what there would have been. But like I said, I personally enjoy using this forum regularly.

#2…for sure.

I wouldn’t consider this to be an overly moderated forum. Its pretty open as far as I am concerned.

What is interesting is that this place as well as barf seems to breed drama. I’ve gotten caught up in it myself. I go on several forums for car related items and they are pretty much self moderated. If a person comes in spouting off like most people do here, the members are the ones who attack and usually that offending character never shows up again. I don’t know if its a regional thing (Buffalonians are more pissed off than the rest of the country) or what.

If I spend too much time here and then I go to stangnet.com or clubwrx.net I find that I have to tame my responses way down to fall in line with the rest of the posters. I am just so used to the explosiveness of this forum that I almost get carried away.

So, in short. I think we are fine the way we are if not a little too liberal with the drama sometimes.

I think there are two major directions you can consider:

You need to figure out your goals for this forum. Is is for money making? If so, you need to increase traffic and clicks on ad banners. Drama is good, offtopic is good, low moderation is good.

Is it for car talk and technical knowledge? Well then you might want to focus on getting all of the 90%+ offtopic posters off of the board by heavy moderation, and/or banning, and focus on the people who know a thing or two about cars, racing, etc and cater to them. You will see less traffic, less activity, but it will be more focused. Who cares about personal feelings at this point, you are either here to talk about cars and tech, or you are here to BS and post OT all day… you get a month trial period, if you don’t make the cut, you are gone.

#1 is gonna be like barf. no offence. which sucks bleuballs!

I appreciate your advice and willingness to help but I would like your opinion on what YOU want from NYSpeed, not what directions we can go in as far as our staff goes.

drama is fun and i don’t see why everyone get’s all bent out of shape about it.

With a few mouse clicks you can add someone to your ignore list, or not open a thread… There is no ignore button in real life, so you should be thankful that is all it takes…

i think this is a pretty fun forum that you can find a variety of information on.

IMO- gen auto and auto related topics should be drama free

but its nice to be able to go somewhere and find some funny info/sites/videos and watch people have funny arguments and drama etc…

i like that there are a variety of topics here, everything from restaurant and movie reviews, the not work safe zone, sports to political and local issues and of course auto related topics

i DONT like how so many people sign up here and their 2nd post is how they are selling their car or whatever

there should be a minimum # of posts to access classifieds because i think that is abused by some individuals

if i think of anything else i will post my .02 later

EXACTLY

   UBRF for the car drama holla!

number one with a dash of two sprinkled in. I enjoy the O/T threads as much as anyone else, but when it gets down to not having one thread without name calling, personal attacks, and all the related ego-feeding BS that goes with it, it loses any respect I had for it at all.

there’s already a forum for wny “car people” that is a cynical free-for-all. I can only hope this one stays more on track.
