I personally like reading stuff like what HRK and MC Chick are talking about. Might learn something new that way :gotme: I post up stuff on my cobra once in a while even though i know there arent many cobra owners on here, i figure its cool to share my plans anyways and hear people’s input and questions. It makes surfin the board more fun and interesting.

I do enjoy a mix of Off Topic as well, though.
I also think NY Speed should be user friendly to car enthusiasts of ALL skill levels.
I was made fun of for asking for answers to questions I didn’t know.
Regardless of if I ask what level boost can the stock internals of my XXXX Car handle with this that and the other mod, OR if I ask what is a turbo?
Sometimes stupid questions come up, sometimes easy questions come up, but I think whatever the case, I would think people would be more willing to show off their WIDE RANGE of automotive knowledge opposed to show off how big of an asshole they can be in making someone feel like a complete asshole.
Because of this, I haven’t been around. Nichole tells me about certain topics of interest, otherwise I have my own car specific forum I belong to. I never asked to be interested in cars, it’s just part of me. Like the rest of you, it’s part of you, regardless what happens in your life, it’s ALWAYS there. It may be put on hold for changes in your life, family, new family additions, but it’s always there for you.
I think most of us, at one time or another have been misguided in our performance modifications. I remember seeing a thread a while ago about old cars you’ve owned, and I saw quite a few that were done with most of the focus being appearance, lighting, stereo, etc…
All I can say, is I feel bad for the new people that stumble on this forum and join, in the hopes of making a few friends, and learning new things about their car, and other cars. As long as they don’t post pictures of their car, or in some cases even mention the make and model, or ask any questions… hell… they’re better off not even posting…life will be good for them.
As soon as their car is mentioned, the make/model of the car they worked their ass off for, the mods they busted their ass to earn to money for, and in many cases, install themselves, their future plans, and let’s not forget their kill stories…
As soon as any of that is mentioned, one guy jumps in to ridicule him, then another, then another, one guy says hi, 7 more jump in to ridicule him, maybe 2 more say hi, if he’s lucky, he gets a compliment on his car, then by this time, he’s so busy defending himself, he doesn’t notice the compliments. All he sees is a forum full of self-absorbed assholes, who have NOTHING nice to say about anything he says or does.
He gives up.
There’s no sense sticking around when you aren’t wanted.

I def think the mods take this “job” of theirs a lil’ too seriously. It seems in every other thread a mod is tossing out a warning to “cut the shit OR ELSE”, Toss around the BAN word, or lock a thread. Thats the most annoying…I come back just to check a specific thread and its fucking locked:tdown: I think the barf is being run great now with little to No mod interference and no locking of threads or banning of peoples. But I guess that is due to the fact that since NYS started alot of “bad apples” left there and came here. I’m mostly on this board right now cuz its winter and its a good way to kill some time but once spring hits I think it will be clear which forum is the race forum and which is the kiddy corral.
Z24Challenge - I agree that sometimes people jump all over those asking questions they consider elementary. I’d like to see that stop as well, because even those who’ve been into cars a long time have holes in their knowledge and you never know when an answer might help several people. In some cases a link may simply be posted to an off-site answer at howthingswork.com or some place, but I’d like to see some sort of answer. If it’s a tech question, put it in the tech forum.
On a related note concerning bashing people’s cars and/or choice of mods, that’s going to happen if you make a “Here’s my car. What do you think?” thread. If you’re really wondering what to do with your car, post a specific question in the tech forum. There will still be some opinion involved, but you’ll get a more tech oriented and helpfull answer there.

you contradict yourself. the ban warnings and locks are to and because of the idiots that were banned from the barf and given another chance. you should welcome the bans. with any luck the warnings will shape these users up. if not… we will get rid of them.
why dont they have to mod there anymore? because most of their users are here now… and im not sure if thats a good or bad thing, but recently i am leaning towards bad.
hmmmm, definately too much moderation. Call outs get locked, who would be a good race threads get locked, kill stories get locked, everyone gets warnedbanned because they disagree in a off topic thread. Seriously, worry about the technical shit and let the off topic/ kill story/ call outs unravel themselves. It seems like wheather or not the majority agrees on something it doesnt matter because what it really comes down to is whether or not the mod agrees with you. I like the way daddie takes care of things the most cause he lays back and listens and plucks out the bad ones if necessary. Hes not waving around his 20in ban cock.
When i came to this site it was very free and laid back, now its just as bad if not worse than the barf was in the past.

not to be a dick, but seriously what does the ban, be it temp or perm, actually accomplish? It takes all off 3sec to sign up another name. Its about as useful as giving a kid a timeout.
the call out threads get locked because they turn into the “bad as street races” playing cock swords with each other untill it turns into threats against each other
if you guys want to talk about beating each other up, go make a yahoo chat room for it so that howie doesnt have to comply with court orders to deliver to the court all the threads that lead to one of you guys giving the other brain damage in some parking lot fight about whos more bad ass

when you came here it was lax… but we didnt have as many users, or as many meatheads. i have no issues with OT being OT (as long as your not hardcore offending people) but the stupid is creeping up into the other parts of the site.
thats what the poll is for. if the people want anarchy, then they get it… but then they have to live with it. if they want automotive tech and nothing else… fine
or if its in between thats perfect, but the users have to abide by those rules. post ot or bs misinformation in the upper part of the forum and your gone for a while.

Onr thing I’ve noticed is that the quality of a forum is related to the average age of the members. The younger the average age, the more moderation is needed to keep things under control.
For example: I used to (or maybe I still am, I don’t know because I haven’t been there in months) be a moderator on TinyRC.com. Where there are a ton of annoying kids. Lots of moderating was necessary.
OTOH: Miata.net and SCCA forums, the only moderation needed is to move threads to their proper location, and getting rid of the occasional troll (on Miata.net, anyway. Don’t see trolls on SCCA forums).
I say the moderators aren’t being harsh enough. Let the bannings continue, they are a step in the right direction.
Maybe a sub forum of Off-Topic could be, Really Off-Topic, and unmoderated so that ANYTHING goes minus the really serious stuff?
I think that RX3 is doing a fine job, and this forum is doing just fine…

i am an easy going guy. i look at asshats post and it really doesnt bother me becuase i am only a millisecond of scroll away to not see it anymore.
i like cars. i love technology and understanding how everything works. there is not alot of that here, but i also think thats a natural progression…it cant be rushed. i am confident it will happen, especially when i think of who is on here now, and thinking about how they arent going anywhere.
i love cars come to think of it. and thats how i have met everyone here. it is a common bond, but not my only bond, at least i hope not. what i am getting at is this forum is a way i can interact and have fun with my friends. sometimes act like an ass. sometimes tell a bad joke in an attempt to be funny.
so i guess i am choice three. unless someone is really annoying me, it doesnt bother me, and i guess i think the forum will moderate itself. asshat arrives. people hate on asshat, so he/she becomes attention whore. person decides attention whore is their place on this forum, moderators come in and ban.
i do see why this poll has been made though. there is a tension here, and i hate to say it but i think it has something to do with being “the other forum” i get the feeling the people who run this site are really trying to steer the forum, and thats fine cuz its not my gig, but i see it as a hard way to do things.
i hope things relax here though. people are really pushing mods buttons these days and that is shitty. and i think that might give the mods an itchy trigger finger.
