O2 sensor wire, please help

hey everyone

i had to cut and solder a piece of wire just off the header for my O2 sensor…it got too close to the pipes and melted so i re routed it away from the heat…
(car is still being funny, hesitating intermittently, etc…BUT)

i noticed the 02 sensor wire has 2 wires in it, one inside teh other with some insulation between. the sensor itself only has one wire coming off it though, are the 2 seperate wires just attached to 2 different things? I soldered the whole lot together assuming this… I dont understand why the one wire becomes two, and why they are inside one another

thanks

was the outside wire aluminium?? i think it’s just the sheild, so the signal doesn’t get interferance.

don’t remember what the ka wire looked like

but it sounds like you need to just solder the inside wires togethor, and not worry about the sheilding.

thanks, yea thats possible

really, it resembles coaxial TV cable but smaller gage

Yup its a sheilding wire, and its also grounded, so if its all soldered together the ECU will not get a signal.

ooooh great…well i suppose i need to redo the whole thing

um, what if it isnt sheilded

Wont be a problem, its there just incase there is something close by giving off a electric feild, this makes sure it doesnt distort the signal.
